Advertisement Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 Hi DBounce, Take a look here Any guesses - How much will the Q3 be in £,$ or euros. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

I don't know if it makes a difference to the manufacturing costs or not. But the conclusion reached here was not that it was done as a cheap way of dealing with aberrations, but as a deliberate design to mitigate those aberrations that can best be handled optically (e.g. chromatic), while leaving aberrations that can easily be handled in software (distortion). That way the lens can actually be designed to a higher IQ (after software corrections) than if the design had to handle all aberrations, which would require compromises (because corrections for one aberration make other aberrations worse). This approach to design cannot be done with M lenses which have to be backward compatible with film cameras, where software correction is obviously not possible. The Q lens also has to handle a lot more features than just aberrations: AF and OIS (requiring light, easy to move, elements, not just moving the whole lens barrel in and out by hand), integrated leaf shutter, macro capability.

Of course it makes a difference to the manufacturing cost. Complexity adds time which adds cost. By doing corrections in camera Leica saves money. How do you think they can sell the whole camera with lens for less than a body only M camera? And frankly, that’s fine. Leica is a for-profit company. None of this is a reflection on the IQ of the camera. But in the context of how much it will cost, I’m simply saying the price should not be hugely inflated in comparison to the Q2. That is unless some new technology such as a stacked sensor has been added to the Q3. If that were to be the case, you could expect a $2000 premium over the current model. Thank you for the edification. I should have added 'manufacturing economist' to my list. But I agree that the Q3 price ought not to be inflated in comparison with the Q2. beewee Posted May 17, 2023 Share #29 Posted May 17, 2023 Seeing how Leica usually charges more when they remove features (think Monochrome, M10-D, etc.), maybe adding a tilt screen would make it cost less? 🙃 1

Simone_DF Posted May 18, 2023 Share #32 Posted May 18, 2023 Considering all the new accessories we've seen popping up in the recent leaks like the special grip, wireless charging mat etc, maybe the price increase won't be as extreme as initially feared, and offset by the sales of golden lens hoods and the like? LocalHero1953 Posted May 18, 2023 Share #33 Posted May 18, 2023 The Q2 launched at £4250 in spring 2019. UK inflation since then is a bit over 18%, taking us to £5050. We can but hope.

And the recent crop of special editions have all been over £5,000. Both the Disney £5,400 and Dawn £5,550 still available at Leica Mayfair but you do get a Annina Roescheisen scarf with the Dawn! Price of the M11 at launch was the same as the M10R so I wouldn't be surprised if Leica adopted a similar pricing strategy for Q3 relative to Q2. Maybe something closer to the current Q2M at £5,200. I do think some of the high end predictions are way over the top, but we shall see.

Mikep996 Posted May 18, 2023 Share #37 Posted May 18, 2023 I admit I'm in that same status despite my dislike of the way the tilting mirror creates the hunchback look. I'm hoping all the unofficial posts/pics re the camera are in error and that Leica figured out how to recess the tilting screen (if there really is one) into the Q2 profile. goodbokeh Posted May 18, 2023 Share #38 Posted May 18, 2023 So the Leica dealer invites (Seattle, LA, Miami) in the US are on May 25th. Does it follow that the Q3 pre-order embargo will lift in the US that day also? https://www.eventbrite.com/d/united-states/free--events/leica/?page=

Same invites went out for European Leica dealers. Don’t know why Leica Rumors think it’s May 26. Probably because it’s coming from a Japanese source which indeed would be May 26 for Japan.
