M11 for me Posted May 26, 2023 Share #822 Posted May 26, 2023 vor 3 Stunden schrieb Qwertynm: has anyone gotten their hands on the handgrip? My Leica Store only had one thumbgrip. Not even a screen protector. I‘m curious what you think about the grip besides the wireless charging. Does it make a noticeable difference to you in how the camera feels? I have that handgrip here in front of me: Its the exact same fit as the one of the Q2. Except that the new one has this loading capability. The old handgrip (the one for the Q2) fits the Q3 as well. In that case I will probably buy the JJC Q2 hand grip, which is not only cheaper at £50 on Amazon but has battery and SD card openings in it. Having put up for years with handgrips which had to be removed to change batteries, until I got the Kamerkraft one for my M10-R about 6 months ago. This incorporates a battery door with 'O' ring seal which replaces the standard bottom cover plate. I would not want to go backwards to removing a grip every time. If the JJC grip doesn't fit, I can always return it to Amazon. Wilson

I'm wondering if it is possible to apply the "recipe" used for the jpg onto the dng file. I already import both jpg and dng. I seem to recall LR 5 had a function to apply an in camera "recipe" or filter onto a raw image. LR had a list of filters for some specific cameras that it used. I'm getting fleeced by Adobe as many if us are with subscriptions so I am using the latest version of LRc.

Okay, so far I thought I‘m not a potential buyer of the Q3 anymore, but that sounds interesting. Very interesting. So if I shoot in RAW and import the pictures into Capture One, the Leica Look is already implemented when importing? Can someone upload comparison shots between „regular“ and „Leica look“. Would be great!
Bartek Posted May 26, 2023 Share #826 Posted May 26, 2023 For your info there is already a limited edition of Q3 (just one unit in the world) called Leica Q3 x Chris Niedenthal

That is truly amazing and I think first of it’s kind.
mjw3 Posted May 26, 2023 Share #828 Posted May 26, 2023 I think there is confusion here. The “Leica Looks” affect jpeg only. Raw is raw, so there is no processing, looks or styles. Lightroom provides Fujifilm simulations. They also do with some Nikon camera styles (cant recall if they are automatically applied in that case). However, I’ve not seen anything pertaining to Leica at this time (perhaps it will come?) I’m sure the third-party market will provide similar presets in the near future.

wlaidlaw Posted May 26, 2023 Share #830 Posted May 26, 2023 The JJC may need a bit of modification to the SD card aperture but I have a Dremel tool for that. In that I change SD cards far less frequently than I change batteries, it would not be a deal breaker, if I had to remove the grip to access the SD card. We will see when the JJC is delivered tomorrow. Wilson
wlaidlaw Posted May 27, 2023 Share #831 Posted May 27, 2023 One odd feature is that if you turn on perspective correction, the level line disappears (if you have selected that as "on" in Capture Assistant). It may be that Leica feel the screen would be too cluttered, by having both of these capture assistants displayed. Wilson

He did not say that AF is worse than in S5II. However, it may be that the limiting factor is the AF motor in the lens.

I had come to the same conclusion. You can use the top line of the perspective framing box as the synthetic level horizon, so well thought out Leica. wlaidlaw Posted May 27, 2023 Share #837 Posted May 27, 2023 (edited) All credit to Phase One. I downloaded the update today to C1.23, where I had only acquired the software yesterday and there is a profile for the Q3 in there. Big change from when the SL came out, when it took nine months to get a profile on C1 and that was only after a forum member lent them his personal camera. Face and eye tracking on the Q2 was acceptable to me. But the addition of body tracking on the Q3 has made things worse. It’s often confused as to what is a “body” and often tries to “stick” with a coat on a rack or some other shape that bears no resemblance to a body. I would love to separate body tracking out from face and eye tracking. As it stands, I think the experience is actually worse than the Q2. I’ve also noticed the viewfinder resolution drops during focusing when the EVF is set to 120fps - pixelation and stair stepping, much as I’ve seen in Sony bodies. I’ve also seen some sort of “fluttering” - almost like shutter blackout while focusing though it’s been hard to replicate consistently. Switching back to 60fps which feels much more like the Q2 experience. Edited May 27, 2023 by Asterox
frame-it Posted May 27, 2023 Author Share #839 Posted May 27, 2023 1 hour ago, Asterox said: “fluttering” probably the DFD >> >> "Panasonic introduced its DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology with the GH4 in February 2014 to help speed contrast detection focusing. It works by examining two images taken with the focus at different distances and analysing their sharpness so that the camera can determine which way and how far to adjust the lens to get the subject sharp. It all happens very quickly so you’re not aware of anything going on. In order for DFD technology to work the camera needs to know the level of micro contrast that a lens can achieve and understand its bokeh, the quality of the out of focus areas. For this reason DFD focusing is only compatible with Panasonic’s lenses. Although Panasonic’s DFD-enabled cameras have a database of information about the lenses that were current at the time of the body’s production, new lenses have the data stored inside them so that they can be used with existing DFD-capable camera bodies."
