Leica Rumors just posted some supposed leaked specs.

I’m still a bit skeptical on the Magnesium body. I’m inclined to think that’s a translation error.

  • 60MP sensor
    • 8K ProRes
    • 315 point PDAF
    • ISO 100-100,000, with ISO 50 pull?
    • Probably slightly different sensor than M11 (Sony IMX455AQK1)
    • I’m guessing it’s going to be Sony IMX455ALK-C variant. If that’s true, then it’ll top out at 30FPS for 8K recording and 60P for 4K
    • 7fps continuous shooting at 60MP with 14bit, 15fps with 12bit output
    • The sensor should support 16bit output at 3fps. I do wish Leica would enable this.
  • Upgraded EVF to 5.76 MP - yay!
  • 1.8 MP rear LCD
  • HDMI output - interesting.
  • Maestro IV
  • new BP-SCL4 battery with 2200 mAh capacity (up from 1860 mAh)
    • 350 shots CIPA rating, down from 370 shots on the Q2
    • Same charger means it’ll be backwards compatible with the old Q2/SL battery
      • Expect about 295 CIPA rating if using older BP-SCL4 battery
  • Up to 28w USB charging means you should be able to charge the battery and shoot at the same time
  • No mention of built in storage :( I’m guessing this is to keep the cost down

Is Leica Rumors associated in any way with Leica management/marketing?  If not, they are just guessing about Q3 specs...or even IF there is a Q3 coming in the next week or two.   Anybody can speculate on what a Q3 might be based on existing Leica products and the endless "wishlists" that are constantly being posted. ;)

No mention of CFExpress. Only UHS-ii SD. The card slot is also physically too small for CFExpress.

I could be wrong on 8K ProRes. It’s possible that ProRes is only supported in 4K and 8K requires H.265/H.254.

I don't think UHS-ii SD cards have the bandwidth to write 8K footage. I think it's either going to be written to internal storage or the port really is big enough for CFexpress. the size difference isn't really that big.

The video capability of the Q3 might be a clue as to why they chose to protrude the screen like they did - because of the heat that's generated recording and writing those bandwidths... not sure how I feel about that move.

Perhaps 8K ProRes via HDMI?

The fact that the Q3 will sport the Maestro IV is really encouraging.

The Achilles' heel of the Q2 was that crappy Maestro II that was not powerful enough to drive its AF, Eye AF etc etc.

It's good they are skipping the Maestro III to push more on performance.

Leica Rumours have a pretty solid track record when it comes to these kind of stuff. All their reports in the recent years on Leica cameras and lenses turned out to be accurate, especially the closer we got to the respective release date.

You can expect this leak to be the final product. There will be no surprises.
