I have a selection of H mount lenses that I adapt to both an S007 and X1D. They work well on both. While most of my lenses are the latest version my HCD 28mm has the old firmware and so has no autofocus on the he X1D however it works fine me on the Leica! I haven’t had any problems with the orange dot lenses on the S007 or SE006 but they are limited to 1/1000th as a fastest shutter as the H6 and X1D combine leaf with e shutter to achieve 1/2000th.

I have also started using the Hasselblad HTS 1.5 tilt shift adapter with both these cameras and again it works very well all round.

My only negative about the adapter is it is surprisingly heavy for such a small thing.

In furtherance of this topic, would HC lenses also be usable on the Leica SL 601 series with the use of the Hasselblad adapter coupled with the Leica S to SL adapter?

I’ve read that it doesn’t work although I’ve no experience and can’t quote a source so it’s very much hearsay.

No, unfortunately.  Checked with my SL several years ago. Neither Contax nor HC adapters worked with the SL 601.

I use it with the HC 300/4.5 for wildlife photography. It works fine, AF is spot on, but not fast.

I assume you are referring to the S 007 with HC adapter, not the SL 601 with HC adapter coupled with the S to SL adapter?

Thanks.

I used Hassleblad film cameras for decades, still have an R9/DMR and quite a few R lenses 😉  Some of the R lenses work on my S(007).....

Hi, John,

I'm revisiting this post because for a few days I've owned an S (007) and you own some Leica R lenses, which adapter do you use to use them on the Leica S?

Thanks, Marco

Sorry to bring up this topic from the underground.

I have set my sights on adding a(n ?) S camera to my Leica Universe (M10R and SL2) with the Classic Trinity of Lenses to start with: 35-70-120 in CS flavor.

I had my eyes on the S adapter H to potentially add the Hasselblad H C 3, 5/50 - II as I heard it has a great reputation, can be had for about half a grand here in the UK... A bargain really compared to the Leica 45 2.8 which everybody praises but I  ain't too sure this would work for me as a focal length and it is weirdly big for the aperture compared to the 35 and 70 it is supposed to slot in between. I sort of hesitated between the 50 Blad or the 55 Zeiss Contax 645 but this one cost 2-3 times as much... and cant be used with leaf-shutter.

Has anyone got experience with that combo? Does this generation of the lens works fully with the S cameras? To my horror I read the 24mm Hasselblad doesn't... I am sure it is by design choice.... cruel if true.

You may look for the HC 35 F3.5, which is still quite a good lens on "small MF sensors" and more or less half the price of the S 35 F2.5 (although of course slower), and reroute the difference towards the S 45 F2.8, or go for the Contax Zeiss 45 F2.8 which is also quite good (if you have the adapter already, since it's quite expensive itself).

The HC 50 F3.5 II is indeed known to be a pretty good lens, much better than version I (and indeed is twice the price usually).

Not the 007, but the S3, HC 28mm.

@Pieter12 thank you for showing these. It seems nice and clean… is it wide enough for you compared to a 24? I did see that this 28 is the widest of HC lenses compatible.

the logic for me is to splurge for the lenses I feel would be used the most as Leica

: 35-70-120…

and touc and try with Contax or Hasselblad for in between focal length or the wide for use when max aperture isn’t crucial for ultimate performance

Sine the 24mm is the equivalent of an 18 or 19mm in 35, it would be seldom used by me. I find the 28mm plenty wide, usually taking it along with the 45mm and the 70mm. That's about as much as I can carry. I don't usually use ultra-wide angle lenses in studio situations.

Here are a couple of photos taken with the HC 35 and the S007.  (If interested, I've got a HC 35 and the S adapter which I would consider selling if interested).  The images are much sharper than the compressed versions posted.

Looking delicious hehe, thanks for sharing! Its the 50 I would be after however!

I love your collections of shots with the 100mm... this lens is high on my wishlist too. Do you like it as much as you seem to?

Slender: That's very kind of you to say.  Thank you.

It is my favorite S lens. About the size of the S70 and the fastest. (I prefer to hand hold so the extra speed is nice to have. I'm just an amateur so please consider my comments in that vein!)
