Ernstk Posted February 27, 2023 Share #22 Posted February 27, 2023 The 2.8/21 Elmarit M is my most indispensable lens. However, the 35 'Lux pre asph v2 is my favourite lens. Ernst

jaeger Posted February 27, 2023 Share #25 Posted February 27, 2023 It seems like not a single system can live without a 50mm.
adan Posted February 27, 2023 Share #26 Posted February 27, 2023 Always the contrarian, the first lens I have acquired in every new camera system since 1977 is a 20/21mm. I guess that would qualify it as "indispensable." But generally I find these questions to be like asking "What is the indispensable string on your guitar?" 5 1

RexGig0 Posted February 27, 2023 Share #28 Posted February 27, 2023 (edited) My most indispensable Leica lens was my first M lens acquisition, and still my favorite, the Summilux-M 50mm ASPH. There was no SLR lens that was anything like it, compelling me to buy it, plus a new M10 upon which to use it. The Summilux-M 50mm ASPH is the only 50mm lens that I find truly and endlessly interesting. I use a Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 Distagon ZM for far more of my images, but, I could, if necessary, dispense with the Zeiss 35mm ZM, and use an SLR camera, to shoot 35mm images. I do not feel a need for my 35mm images to have a “Leica look.” Plus, there there are other excellent 35mm M-mount lenses, whether I want modern, vintage, or “Leica Glow.” I am, I reckon, addicted to 35mm lenses, which makes any one of them more or less dispensable, because there are others, already on hand, or that I could buy. jimmielx Posted February 27, 2023 Share #29 Posted February 27, 2023 Most indispensable lens for me would currently be a 35mm having recently drifted there from 50mm. I never quite found my prefect 50mm. I'm on my second Zeiss Planar and second Voigt Nokton II at the moment. I once had a Summilux 50mm ASPH and loved the images but missed focus with it too often. I regret letting that one go... I do however have my indispensable lens in the 35mm Zeiss Distagon - just love the rendering of that lens.

Guest Posted February 27, 2023 Share #31 Posted February 27, 2023 A small 90mm lens is indispensable for me. That's why I use my Macro-Elmar-M 90mm more often than my Elmarit-M 90mm lens, which I prefer otherwise.
John Robinson Posted February 28, 2023 Share #32 Posted February 28, 2023 Any lens you like so long as it is a 50mm: Summilux for film; Summicron for digital. Second preference always an 85 or 90mm (Summilux-R 80 would be nice but very hard to come by). After that, any number of third preferences.
Pierre68 Posted February 28, 2023 Share #33 Posted February 28, 2023 Summilux-M 50mm ASPH (for people, landscape, low light etc...) or Elmarit 28mm (for street) or MATE (general purpose travel lens)

D Fuller Posted February 28, 2023 Share #35 Posted February 28, 2023 28mm f/2.0 is a lens I find I go to before anything else on my Leica. I would love it to be the Sumacron, but in my case its the Voigtlander Ultron. Welcome, dear visitor! lekitr Posted February 28, 2023 Share #39 Posted February 28, 2023 The first leica lens I bought was a Summicron-m 35mm V4, it was in 1988. I used only this lens for 28 years. Sold it to fund a Summicron 35 asph chrome brass. Have some regrets, should have kept il with the asph. At 50 I rediscovered the 50mm. A slow process, my Summicron-m 50mm V5 chrome brass is now my most used lens and I think that if I had to choose only one this would be it. I'm approaching 60 so I hope I won't fall for a R60mm macro, I sold my last R body last year. 5
jpto Posted March 1, 2023 Share #40 Posted March 1, 2023 It depends for me, film/M9 days for sure I'd say the 50 ASPH Summilux for the speed. Now in the M11 era I prefer the 50 APO or 35 APO, I was mainly a 50MM shooter until I bought the 35 APO, now it's stuck on my camera
