It’s definitely the camera which has been designed to appeal to digital users so that they’re not too upset by the look of film images.

You are right there. I shoot film mostly so was approaching this from the film perspective.

But shooting digital… the camera definitely brings in a multitude of features that could effect images.

in this particular case.. with the M6 and film…. The camera is ‘the box’.

Neither. I’d buy an M2 (MP haptics) or an M4 (M6 haptics) and a Sekonic L-308. In fact, I did exactly that … over the last 20 years, but even if purchasing tomorrow, I would do the same. I’d spend what I saved on film and processing (and travel).

I’d just pre-order both and take whichever comes first. You might be waiting a very long time if you want a new one. Personally I prefer the BP MP, but both look great to me. Also dealers will have no problem selling them if you change your mind.

…It is the lens or film type that change the ‘look’….. right or wrong?

In your case there is a strong possibility the exposure meter is also faulty.

Due to the current availability situation, I go for a M6 replacement, as initially desired. An MP might take forever and do not want to miss summer.

maybe at a later stage in life 😉

but the black paint of the MP is still very tempting.

my gut feeling, you will add the black paint mp into your bag, it is most irresistable

I want an MP with the red dot, and an M6 with no dot.  So I am thinking of having my tech swap the top plates between my two cameras..

So a BP top plate on your matte black M6.  That might look, uh, interesting ;)

Wait a sec … if you are actually asking BP MP or M6 (either finish), well that’s a different story.  BP MP all day, every day, even if that means waiting many days. BP is smooth and warm, almost soft. None of the other finishes currently available are the same. Only the Hammertone MP offered a similar sensation, many years ago … :(

That actually is very true.  The BP is also 'stickier' to touch which makes it easier to hold on to.  This is intentional and a part of the design to allow it to intentionally wear.

In comparison - black chrome is relatively cold and slippery, while the new M6 matte black paint splits the difference between black chrome and black paint.

You don't really notice this unless you have all three in front of you to compare!

I'd pick a MP black painted.

I dislike M6's film advance lever and film rewinding knob, and much prefer MP's.

However, I'm intrigued by M6's combination of brass and new black paint finish, and I'd love to have one as my additional body :D

Overall I really like both from a look and feel! I haven't seen and old/classic M6 in real life but at least, as I have the new one here, the body, the black color and feel of the cam is very nice! And I do think the M6 might be more suitable for me as I am always struggling with the outer experience of things in terms of cleanness and condition (scratches etc.) - I might be too careful with the MP as it tends to scratch or lose the paint over time much faster. Even though it is meant to happen, could take some time and mental effort to let go and focus on using the cam instead of caring too much 😄

But do you think the camera will brass over time?
