andybarton Posted November 3, 2012 Share #201 Posted November 3, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) No, because you have only recorded one monochrome shot. On a normal sensor, there are RGB filters built into the sensor to record three monochrome shots simultaneously, which are then combined in the firmware to make the colour shot. If you only have one monochrome shot, unfiltered, you only have one colour to play with. Try it for yourself Just take a colourful shot, turn it to grey scale, then try recombining it in Photoshop as you have described.

seanbonner Posted November 3, 2012 Share #206 Posted November 3, 2012 The M Monochrom is the first digital leica to lure me away from my film bodies, been playing with it for a few days so far and am very much in love. I've got a learning curve ahead of me in terms of processing the digital files, but really loving the results so far, especially the low light results.. Avatar Posted November 3, 2012 Share #207 Posted November 3, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) It is such a great camera. Grateful it exists. As far as post process, while I am not particularly good at it, I find the files from the Monochrome to be the best and easiest to work with by far. Just a magnificent and truly addictive camera. Congratulations on yours!
Guest malland Posted November 4, 2012 Share #208 Posted November 4, 2012 (edited) Unfortunately, I haven't been able to shoot for about a month and probably won't be able to do so until I get back to Bangkok in three weeks. Having shoot less than 200 frames, I've not yet come anywhere near to mastering the M-Monochrom or the processing in Lightroom 4 but, nevertheless, my feeling is that the files offer such flexibility that I'll be able to do what I want with this camera. The picture below is, in my view, an example of this because the light was blinding when one looked into it. —Mitch/Paris Bangkok Hysteria (download link for book project) Edited November 4, 2012 by andybarton Oversized image removed

melissah Posted November 4, 2012 Share #211 Posted November 4, 2012 I am so considering selling my m8 and m9 for this camera. Currently looking at everything and considering how many images I've shot in color that I love. I convert almost everything to B/W. I can't shoot indoors w m9 as freely as I'd like. And outside at night forget it. What I'm seeing some of you pull out of this camera is simply beautiful. Otoh not sure how I feel about filtering my lenses while shooting. I'm guessing doing it in PP won't work? My final consideration is I do sometimes love color. I'm probably echoing what many here are thinking and have probably said.
