Interested, but it would have to be within LUF - maybe a separate forum. Why only film? Surely digital users are entitled to comments as well? No discrimination please! A picture is a picture and stands (or falls) on its merits despite the technology used to produce it

And having said that - do we invite the German section - or have a separate one there?

Ditto. I would be very interested in the creation of this - even more if I could use my M8 Ç if not, I will enter the same ( thankfully my MP seems action regulary ) but I would like to have the option !

Go for it !

Why shouldn't film users have some fun on their own?

There is already a Barnack Challenge here for users of LTM cameras, so a separate "thing" for film users is not inappropriate.

There is nothing to stop digital users setting up their own monthly event - I am sure that we will help anyone to set up anything along these lines if it is felt to be of a benefit to the forum.

Yes it has to be film for me. Nothing against digital (I use it all the time) but I feel that we should run it on this forum, and that it should showcase film (this is the film forum)

I understand that an image is an image and thats what we'll we judging but we need to show what this film forum and its members are capable of, and obviously workflow, film type, dev times etc

I feel that it would bring more people to the film forum, and that should be the main idea as if you look the digital forum 'browsers' outnumber us by 10/1.

Everybody dust off you old cameras, put in a roll of Tri-x- should be a blast!!

I too want it to be film only. Adding to reasons cited, it would mean that scanning technique would become part of the conversation which would add an important dimension to the other issues involved with first capturing, and then "developing" B&W film images digitally. best...Peter

...in a (b&w?) film based monthly restricted topic, one picture per account, heavy critique on technique and composition?

Wrong sort of place for it? Its about the camera and not photography? Too hard?

Kick us off with a subject, then Rob, to start on 1st December (?)

Meanwhile, between us, we can set up some rules. :)

Seeing that so many express that film and digital are different medium.......................... thus different approaches............ well it's got to be film here..............

............hey Rob what about kangaroos between Wilcania and Menindie at dusk available light images only as the first topic

Yes sure Andy. In the interests of making the subject available to absolutely everybody, short notice in city, suburbs, country, and something still diverse but should be really challenging to come up with a single frame that is not just an aweful cliche.....

Fence

ps Would also suggest no restrictions on this. Would not have to fall into any particular catagory, people architecture landscape sport whatever, only that fence would be central to the image.

Hello Rob,

I have been reading the Leica User forum for quite some time now, however, I must say that I am often suspicious on the "origin" of the scanned images forum users share with us. Your idea is great as long as the criticisms are constructive and are made on genuine Leica images. I use to shoot with a Leica R8 then moved to M6 then sold the M6 (big mistake) with the anticipation of getting the much revered M8. Finally, I never got into digital photography. I don't know why. It seems that there is something about the digital world and photography that does not "jive" with me. I now shoot all my images with the M7. I do use digital for work (I'm in engineering with the City of Vancouver, BC, Canada) simply because I have no other choices, its a working tool. I have not yet succumbed to the digital marketing monster yet. All this to say "go for it". I will try to make time and scan "genuine" Leica made images and participate more actively to this exciting photographic forum. I say "exciting" because I thing that, unlike many forums, this one is a step above as far as contributions are concerned. This is a compliment to all regular participants.

Regards to all

Daniel, Vancouver, BC
