My Leica dealership just informed me that 1.6.1 will be available tomorrow 02.03 and it will also include a freezing bug issue changelog.

Sometimes software products take a long time to sort out, going through all the code, line by line.  I will be going to the Leica Store in Miami this coming week or the next week to check out the M11.  I don't see how I can afford one yet, but who knows.  

What we used to do with software when I was involved in it, was to generate an error-code to find out what was happening at the moment the software froze.  I see this all the time when something on my Mac computers has a software crash.  They also generate a "log-file" that a technician can study, to identify the issue.  Maybe Leica could release a "debug" version of their firmware, that saves information in a file on the SD card that could be examined to find out the cause of the crash.

For those of you who have the problem, exactly what are you doing when the camera "crashes"?  Taking a photo?  Reviewing a photo?  Something in the menu?  Doing nothing at all?  Maybe there is a common thread that is most likely to cause the crash.  

Does the camera ever crash when one of you is recording on the internal memory rather than an SD card?  If you have more than one battery, does it always crash with the same battery, and not the other?  Does it crash in any of the shooting modes, or perhaps maybe "only A" mode?  Does it never crash if you have the camera in (M)anual mode?

I tried several sd cards such as progrades, sandisks and other brands.all have sometimes same freezing problem. Already enough time passed to heal the wounds Leica loyals experienced. I ask for more attention to resolve the problem.

No freezes at all , I have no idea if this is relevant. IF YOU Think it is SD card related why not try using the camera without a card ??

2 freezes in a couple of minutes with this exact same card here assuming yours is UHS-II. No problem with UHS-I cards though so i consider myself lucky.

Ict,  Your observation IMO is correct.  The digital Ms work better with UHS-1.  When I owned the M11, I only used UHS-1 type SD cards, no issues.  But I also used the SD Card Formatter app to initally format the card, then format in camera.  Never a freeze or brick.  I also only used San Disk or Delkin Black SD 32 or max 64 cards.  I would download every day after shooting, reformat in camera at the start of each day.  Every 10 shoots, I would reformat in SD Card Formatter app, then in camera.  Never an issue.  I also do this with my M10-M, current M10-R. Never a freeze or brick. I alway use the same SD card for each camera.  My associates who shoot M10s and M11 used UHS-II type cards...occasional freezes and one brick with a M11.  Once they tried the above and use UHS-1 cards, no more issues.  IMO, you are on to something.  Merry Christmas!  r/ Mark

Nope! As I mentioned I used sandisk uhs i 64gb,170mb/s and 128gb, 200mb/s and64gb,300mb/s and tried other brands. I think this issue is not the matter of whether uhs i and uhs ii, even though the  level of how often may be different. What I am saying is asking Leica more attention and swift action resolving the freezing. I don’t care about what the reason caused problem. We the owner of M11 should deserve more service from Leica. Don’t you think that is why we paid the higher price than that of other good products?

All i can do is stating facts i'm no techie enough to explain why they happen.

I absolutly agree with you mr. ICT.My point is the Leica out there solving the problem more swiftly rather than sluggish reaction. Their responsibility,not ours to figure out what the right SDcard is.

I understand Your point. But can You make clear, if You had any freezes under 1.6.0.0?

I'm pretty sure they do their best but they did not find the cause(s) of the problems yet if you ask me. All we can do is helping them the best we can since complaining let alone threatening won't be of any help for anybody.

Yes, software glitches shouldn’t happen, but trying to help fix the problem, rather than just moaning about it, is a much more positive position to take, IMHO.

You are right. But sometimes Leica needs a bit constructive pressure too.

Hellow Mr.andybarton I am not moaing but protesting Leica’s poor quality control and sluggish response to resolve the issue. I am not professional but just amateur who want to enjoy photography. Don’t force me your oppinion to give help resolve the issue. All kinds of problems and following solution already suggested enough whether it is feasible or not. They should be responsible for resolving the problem considering suggestions so far. Not we customer. that is my point. I won’t be responding any more comments from now on.

I don't quite understand why your answer is so rude. Andy has written kindly.

I have had the M11 since last August. At that time, the beta firmware still had many problems, crashes were the order of the day. Leica has been working on it. When the camera was launched, we beta testers had no more crashes. Only the mass test after market launch revealed new problems. I think they are few in number, but then all the more serious for the individual user. Leica needed us customers to fix them. Supposedly, the crashes have been largely eliminated with firmware 1.6.0.0 (this will probably never happen completely). That was late, but at least.

If someone still complains about crashes, they should also tell us whether they are using the new firmware. And those who used to complain about crashes should tell us if they are still there or if they have disappeared.
