Here’s my latest acquisition, an early serialised, standardised, coupled 11 o’clock nickel Elmar 3.5cm with snail cam in faux croc box.

Very nice, the box is really quite rare.  Here is an early numbered 35/3.5 Elmar #143513 on a model D #82599.  The second photo shows the heavy or snail cam. I have some that are unnumbered and some with the 3 digit compatability number. ASFAIK, serial numbering for these 35/3.5 lenses started at 143401.

Here’s the outside of the box. According to James Lager there were two small batches made during very late 1932. 143401-600 and 144401-500 

both my lens and yours Alan are part of these batches 

144454 is in feet, I wonder whether if the first batch was all in meters and the second in feet.

I hope you right that I show my sweetheart here. It is from 1932, no serial number, with original sun visor. The color is a bit deceptive, it's silver.

On the right below is my early standardised 3.5cm Elmar which came in a purple pill box, which is also shown. It is 7 O'Clock and has the 'heavy cam'. I have a later chrome 3.5cm Elmar which came in a red pill box.

Lenses in croc boxes are rarely seen. The only items I have in croc boxes are close up lenses and filters. 11 O'Clock and bell push infinity knobs are also rare on 3.5 cm lenses. Before the III came along, Leitz had supplied some 11 O'Clock lenses with the II Model D. I have a II Model D from April 1932 which was supplied with an 11 O'Clock bell push 50mm Elmar.

My example has a bare brass ring at the rear, looks like most others are painted
