But I find the M4-P not a lesser camera. As it comes without a light meter, it's more suited for precise shoots that require more thinking. M6 = documentary work, family snaps, daily carry. M4-P = second unit and planned stuff. That said, both suffer from focus patch flaring, like a lot. I'm thinking of upgrading that. Can anyone give a ballpark of the costs? Thanks!! Cost for rangefinder replacement with no flaring MP one is > $300 when done by a third party service. But there is a way to limit the flare significantly for free which I posted earlier here in this forum: 1 1

In my original post from 2016 some complained that the tape would fall off which I used to tape the non-adhesive foil on the sides. It does indeed not work well with something like US-based Scotch Tape, but I used a European brand tape named TesaFilm which sticks extremely well. I am using it now for nearly 8 years on my M6, and it still holds very well.
Martin B Posted July 26, 2023 Share #1484 Posted July 26, 2023 I have several Leica film M cameras, and some show this annoying patch flare more others less: M3: none, no patch-flare at all since a different condenser part was used. M4-2: sometimes but not as often as with the M6 M6 (non-TTL): as described above - often, now only sometimes with polarized foil attached M7: sometimes but not as often as with the M6 I haven't used the foil trick on my M4-2 and on my M7 since it happens much more rarely there. Some M7 series cameras already have the patch-flare free MP type, but these were only some at the M7 production final. I haven't found any information why the std M7 still seems better in this regard compared to the earlier M6 version so does the M4-2 for example. Even with it I can’t feel the comfort I have wit the SLR seeng the frame, I mean I have to find some perspective angle to shoot, it is like everything happens much before me, with the SLR I have the feeling I’m in the frame. A month after my post I feel myself obligated to update my opinion.I had the chance to use my M6 active last month and I rediscovered my M6: - to be quick on the street with fully manual camera like M6 I set my speed to 1/250 if faster speed is not needed.Than change only the aperture. - I use Summicron M 50mm and I set it to 5m. When I see somebody to shoot I can fastly play with the focus from 5-7m.On this way I don’t use anymore zone focusing which limited me to f/8, but now can be quick with every film and condition. The silent shutter is crucial for street photography.I have Contax G2 which is awesome camera, BUT when prefocus makes noise and this disturb the person if it is in perspective. I have Nikon FM3a which is also great camera, but the noisy shutter also is not suitable for street. Today Leica M6 is my favorite film camera! Getting used to any RF camera takes a little while. But when you do, they become so pleasurable to use. The funny thing about noise... my slrs are much louder than my rfs, but I think that most people a few feet away wouldn't even notice! To us though, behind 'the trigger', as the cameras are by our faces WE notice the sound difference! For me the sound of an M is just so much more, well, soothing. It's like the camera is saying 'shhh, I got it"... ;) Edited August 20, 2023 by Huss

Being rangefinder Leica m6 has the advantage over SLRs in terms of lower shutter speed w/out shaking 1/60 even 1/30 which is hard to achieve with any SLR. Another thing I dislike in M6 is the manual metering, I can’t understand how a manual metering camera is so preferable for street photography where a fast reactionis needed. Some times I pre-meter, but if there is a shadow or stronger light I have to adjust the aperture, than the focus and the moment is gone. The EV difference between shadow and sunshine is quite constant in the same weather and long periods of time. You just need to adjust the aperture to wherever you prepare to shoot. Stay alert to the surroundings, things might happen, and the suitable exposure setting, keep fiddling with your aperture and shutter speeds, it’s a good way to keep your eyes open to any streetphotography chance

Sorry Brad, I sold the M6 Titanium coated long ago, not use it much. Lenses in same finish also sold. Just keep only one as sentimental trophy, even if I use the lens with pleasure with other M ( not one in titanium coated, this lens is so unique in use and rendering). EddieJ Posted November 19, 2023 Share #1494 Posted November 19, 2023 Hi all Hope you all are well wherever you are in the world. This has come across my path and thought i’d ask whether anyone has heard, or seen in the wild an M6 anti, reverse Panda. Unique to the OG Panda I’m thinking, yay or nay, maybe …….. serial number 1714139 checks in as a 1987 build Silver of 4000. I suspect a Frankenstein, body has bumpers, has some zinc bubbling *as on top plate, has a blacked out front LEICA M6 & top plate script ERNST LEITZ WETZLAR GMBH, Leitz red logo. Accessory plate is silver. I got a hold on said item/s. Asking price 2200€ 3685$ AUD Best. Eddie J Welcome, dear visitor! a.noctilux Posted November 19, 2023 Share #1497 Posted November 19, 2023 Sorry I'm not in the market (buyer) for one. So the pricing is your appreciation. I'm done and I do own many M6 in pretty good condition.

In your opinion, is the body worth 2200€ That sounds a bit steep given the external condition and it may be cobbled together to salvage a camera or someone just liked the look. But maybe it's worth that to someone if was just CLA'd and it works perfectly, IDK. I'd probably look for one in better condition though.
