philipus Posted June 3, 2015 Share #921 Posted June 3, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) The only thing I do not love about my M6 is the finder flare in strong backlight. Should mine ever need work done, I make sure to have the viewfinder optics upgraded. There is no other flaw to a M6. Dirk, I think you would, as I did, find it well worth the trouble and expense to have the finder upgraded. I know it's individual how much one is affected by VF flare, but I found it very difficult. Even lamps indoors during daytime caused my TTL to flare. After the upgrade I noticed that my M4, which I thought was entirely unaffected by flare, actually does flare though not even nearly as badly as the TTL did. br Philip

Nice to see another gray Griptac fan. Oh, and the M6 is pretty nice too.

Ai_Print Posted June 4, 2015 Share #924 Posted June 4, 2015 (edited) Thanks for the tip Philip - it is definitely on the list once the camera has to go into service - which might be a while off, as it is working so well ;-) I have to agree with Phillip on what a good upgrade it is for an M6. Depending on how much internal haze or dust the RF optics have, the standard M6 RF patch flare can be either tolerable and reasonably easy to work around or be an outright nightmare. In the case of the M6TTL I picked up for a super price, both the VF and RF optics had some haze and internal dust so my RF flare was especially pronounced, now with the MP upgrade it is literally flawless and a complete dream to use. pwrdesign Posted June 15, 2015 Share #925 Posted June 15, 2015 Fellow M6ers!I was really close to buying an MP after selling my M-P and switching to 100% film, but in the last minute I ordered an M6 instead with a really good 35mm Summilux instead. One thing I've really experienced while I've been out shooting with my M-P together with normal M cameras is the fact that people dosnt approach me asking about the camera. The red leica dot, is it just glued? Easy to remove and replace with a black one?Best Regards Patrik

Like you, I settled with an M6 and picked up a 35 Cron (instead of the Lux)! As to the extent of my reading, the red dot is just glued and can easily be removed by heating up the adhesive and taking it off. I have not personally done this myself. Also, I know a lot of people are going to give me crap for this, but I'm still looking for a way to "vandalize" my chrome M6 to cover up the "Leica M6" and the red dot. Any suggestions? wattsy Posted July 6, 2015 Share #931 Posted July 6, 2015 Very nice – looks like a great find. Interesting that the top plate is engraved – was that the norm for an M6TTL sold in the Japanese market?
Pjay Posted July 6, 2015 Share #932 Posted July 6, 2015 Interesting that the top plate is engraved – was that the norm for an M6TTL sold in the Japanese market? Being a total newbie to the Leica family, I must admit to being clueless Hopefully some much more knowledgable person can chime in.
Guest Posted July 6, 2015 Share #933 Posted July 6, 2015 I believe the Japanese market had a few of them made with the Leica script on the top plate. Though they weren't engraved but screen printed on. I think from around the time the MP was introduced that Leica started engraving instead of printing the script. M9reno Posted July 6, 2015 Share #934 Posted July 6, 2015 Amazing to see the word 'Leica' on the same body three times: this must be a record, for any camera of any brand.

Cyril Jayant Posted July 8, 2015 Share #936 Posted July 8, 2015 I am keeping my M6 which I bought second hand and it is nearly 18 years ago. I think no other camera of Leica can replace it . It is obvious yet and I am am trying to get a digital replacement but they all become second body to it . Perhaps one day there can be one ... I guess but not very soon as the evolution goes in different concepts .

thrid Posted July 24, 2015 Share #939 Posted July 24, 2015 I've had a TTL since about 1997. It was my first Leica and I got it as a demo unit with a ding in the baseplate at a steep discount. Ironically I had gone in to buy an SLR. I had heard about the M series, but that was the first time I had actually come across one in person and was instantly hooked. The first two weeks were a struggle, as I tried to get comfortable with the RF. I was pretty young and had saved up for a long time to buy my first 'serious' camera and there were real moments of doubt if I had made the correct decision. But one day it just clicked and I haven't looked back since. I still have the camera and it's been all over the world with me. I've put countless rolls through it without a hitch.
