Crem Posted November 14, 2022 Share #1  Posted November 14, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a 2021 MP with ~100 rolls through it. The shutter curtain's white metering dot appears to be showing some wear. Is this normal? I'm asking because I still have some warranty left. Metering is accurate when I compare it to an external meter. Thank you all for your help.  Welcome, dear visitor! Danner Posted November 14, 2022 Share #7 Â Posted November 14, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Normal, both my M6 look like that, and the meters function accurately.
UliWer Posted November 14, 2022 Share #8 Â Posted November 14, 2022 If you look into the instructions of the new M6 - which are the same in this point as for the MP or the old M6 - you'll find a note on p.34: The uneven coverage of the metering dot is due to the fact that no condensed and thick layer of paint can be applied to the flexible rubber lining of the shutter without negatively impacting on its function. The measuring accuracy, however, will not be lessened by that fact.
armadsen Posted November 14, 2022 Share #9 Â Posted November 14, 2022 My (2021) MP looked like that brand new out of the box. I don't think it's actually true wear, at least not beyond what happens in the first few times the shutter is fired, e.g. during QC at Leica.

Sometimes it's completely gone and the next time I look it may be there in perfect condition. I guess the camera is worth a fortune...
comte de Mazan Posted November 14, 2022 Share #13  Posted November 14, 2022 I have an MP bought in 2004 with a slight tendency to overdrive by 1/2 to 2/3 of a diaphragm. I noticed a wear of the white point on the curtain (normal I think over time... I shoot at least 3 films a month) which therefore reflects less light on the cell. I increased the sensitivity setting to 250 iso for 160 iso, and everything is perfect now, having exactly what my Sekonic indicates. I prefer that to sending it to Leica etc... Welcome, dear visitor! Homer Dulu Posted November 15, 2022 Share #14 Â Posted November 15, 2022 Ewwww dots on Leicas are so ugly. I'd cover it in black tape if I were you.

1joel1 Posted November 15, 2022 Share #16 Â Posted November 15, 2022 Isn't it trying to mimic a grey card reflectively so it is a bit brighter?
Michael Geschlecht Posted November 16, 2022 Share #17 Â Posted November 16, 2022 Hello Joel, Welcome to the Forum. Having the color of the "dot" mimic an 18% gray card would lessen the sensitivity range of the meter. It is more useful to have the surface as light in color as possible so that it can reflect a greater amount of a lower level of light on to the sensor. The lack of pigment on some portions of the "dot" may be a purposeful action to standardize the amount of light reflected to the sensor. Best Regards, Michael

Crem Posted November 16, 2022 Author Share #19  Posted November 16, 2022 @Hussthanks for posting the manual. When you get your new M6 I hope you post a picture of the white dot. From the sound of it, they are all pre-worn from the factory for a good reason. The Leica equivalent of designer stone washed denim 😀
