28mm 2.8 asph v2 and 28mm summicron asph v1. I use 2.8 much more than the 2.0. Mainly because of ergonomics (lens shade) and the 2.0 has vignetting characteristics that I despise correcting in PP.  I rarely need the extra stop with ISO 400 film and definitely not with an M10R. I’m thinking about unloading the 2.0 and using the money for another lens.  Anyone else been in a similar circumstance?  What did you do?

The Rule of thumb is to never sell leica glass but the 2.0 sits on the shelf and there are other options I’d like but cannot get without selling the 2.0.

All comments and advice appreciated.

Given your dislike for the lens I would sell it, if later you decide it was a mistake it is a common lens and can be repurchased.  There are lenses that others love but not me, I’ve rarely regretted selling them.  Which lens would you buy with the proceeds?

If you don't like it no reason to hoard it on your shelf when someone else could use it. I've sold a few M lenses in the past and do not regret it - they funded things more useful to me when their time was up. Most people barely need 1 28mm lens let alone 2 of them. A 35 is almost always a better option unless you've really gotten comfortable with being in other people's faces.

Not sure.  Something more vintage or maybe a 50 apo.

I checked prices for a used 50 apo last night and I was shocked at the high (for me) prices.  It's doable but ....

I prefer the 50 Summilux ASPH.  A good match for the 28 Summicron ASPH, too, IMO.  And a lot more reasonably priced than the 50 APO.

Just open your Summicron at f/2.8 and it won't have more vignetting than your Elmarit at the same aperture i suspect . I have both 28/2 and 28/2.8 asph (v1) and i don't plan to get rid of either even if i use the Elmarit more often due to its smaller size. But i like the smoother rendering of the Summicron and the Elmarit is useless when i need f/2 for indoor pics or shallow DoF. BTW as mentioned above there are smaller Leica hoods than the stock one for the Summicron. Hood # 12589 here:

I have the 50 1.4 ASPH, too.  That's another reason to pass on the apo.

I rented the APO for a week to compare with my Summilux.  I preferred what I have, irrespective of cost.  Best way to know is to try.  Surveys never improved my pics/prints.

If you aren't using your 28mm summicron, there's little point in keeping it.

I had the v1 28mm summicron asph for a number of years and liked the lens very much but hated the ridiculous plastic hood.  The hood alone was not enough reason to trade it in for the v2 with it's subjectively better hood design but when I saw the safari edition with the sliding hood, a far more convenient design imo, I changed the v1 for the 28mm summicron safari and I'm glad I did.

It's my most used lens on film and digital and seems much smaller on the camera than the v1.  I found that I like the olive green colour mismatch with my black paint cameras and I added a new  50mm summicron safari and a new 90mm apo-summicron safari to round out the set of three.

It turned out to be an expensive lens hood upgrade! :D
