The results are stunning. If you smack a 1/4 promist filter or a gentle Tiffen Glimmerglass/Soft FX on the Voight YOU VIRTUALLY GET THE STEEL RIM for just a few hundred credits (insert euros/dollars/pounds at will).https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1779165/4 That’s… kind of incredible haha. I guess you just don’t get distortion free with the Voigtlander, but I think that’s about it?

Less distortion Sharper wide open Choice between single (SC) or multi-coated (MC) versions Better hood design that doesn't interact with screw-on filters

Popular Post Crem Posted December 4, 2022 Popular Post Share #146 Posted December 4, 2022 (edited) I got lucky and received my steel rim v2 pre-order yesterday. Shot on the M11 wide open with focus set to infinity I believe. I tried to keep editing to a minimum, but I did do a little adjustment to the sky and used Cobalt Imaging's "Colours" Lightroom profile. I had a Leica UVA II filter on it for this shot. Overall I'm really loving the lens wide open. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! dsm21 Posted December 4, 2022 Share #147 Posted December 4, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Steel Rim reissue shot on M9 Wide open the lens is very “glowy” shooting in daylight gives an almost halo effect I wanted to share these images to show wide open at night. focus was set to the skyline and some street lights display an oblong shape to them. This is a characteristic of shooting wide open Welcome, dear visitor! Lenses are just a tool to make good photographs. There are those who buy the best from Leica and those that seek the best ‘value for money’ alternatives. Some like me buy Leica, Voigtlander and others, based on what one needs. Hence the market for Voigtlander and other makes. For the viewer, it’s usually the photograph that matters and not the choose of tools. Edited December 5, 2022 by rramesh

Now I don’t feel so bad. I put my name on the waiting list at Map Camera and booked a return trip based on the estimated release date but there was a delay and the lens was not available when I returned.
SiggiGun Posted December 5, 2022 Share #151 Posted December 5, 2022 Hi I received the lens last week and started to play with. The weather here in Paris is very bad. However I had some first impression. Of course, such a 60 year old lens can not compete with a modern one in term of contrast, sharpness, rendering, especially wide open. On this other side, It allows to see the progress of differences in optic design and requirements. It is simply fun! My first impressions confirm what I have read and seen before: very low contrast wide open not very sharp wide open but interessing rendering for portraits very sharp up from f2.8 to f5.8 No filter with the classic lens hood But, again, this in not the point. I will use this lens for special occasions: weeding, landscape, etc. Maybe for travel and used at f4. Its small and light. However, It is not a general purpose lens. The modern Lux or Cron recommend for this Welcome, dear visitor! rfunnell Posted December 10, 2022 Share #157 Posted December 10, 2022 I noticed that when pairing it with my SL2-S the firmware seems unaware of the Summilux 35 steel rim Type 1 and assumes its the 'Leitz Chamber-M 90mmf2.2" . My firmware is version 4.0 . Any others have this or are we waiting for a further firmware ver for the SL2.

analogM Posted December 11, 2022 Share #159 Posted December 11, 2022 (edited) Had the chance to spend some time with the new steel rim in Wetzlar a couple of weeks ago, thanks to the very kind people of Leica Store Wetzlar. Lovely dreamy rendering! Had it been available I would have bought it on the spot... Unfortunately just the demo version in store and not for sale... Welcome, dear visitor!
