monark33 Posted October 17, 2022 Share #1 Posted October 17, 2022 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello! Im not new in Leica cameras, I am the owner of the new M11. And from the first day I started to have problems. Sometimes the camera just freezes and does not respond to button presses. I have to take out the battery and then everything works. It seems to me that there is some kind of conflict with the external SD card, I tried 3 different cards (I have them in M10p, SL2) and I even bought two new ones, but this problem remains. Sometimes it freezes after standby mode. Today in 30 minutes I had three freezes and I managed to record it on video (I will add a link to google drive) wrote to support. Now I am writing here to consult with you. 1- I can't return the camera, my friends bought it for me, and I'm in Ukraine. Now there is no way to leave country or send camera for repare or swap. 2- As a person working as a developer, it seems to me that this is a software error. It seems that the camera is requesting a card, but for some reason it hangs. (firmware is the latest out of the box) 3- But maybe this is a factory failure, I'm not sure about anything. I wouldn't want to get a brick one day. Please tell me, who faced this and what could I do? How much is this really a problem and is it present in your cameras. I never had any problems with Leica. I had almost all modern cameras from M8. Im very sad with this experience. Thanks you for helping P.S - video https://drive.google.com/file/d/10sKe3OtA9y9HMa1UvTqcAgjPaiBjYcz2/view?usp=sharing UPD: same happent without SD card. BUT after recharging the battery in the cradle video https://drive.google.com/file/d/1msYY2qFhjrNbiE5dakORYlv1XOJ0NoCR/view?usp=sharing Edited October 17, 2022 by monark33
Advertisement Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 Hi monark33, Take a look here Leica m11 bug or technical (manufactor) problem. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted October 17, 2022 Share #2 Posted October 17, 2022 Purely empirical. If you have an UHS-II card, remove it, put any UHS-I card instead, format it and format the internal memory as well, reset the camera and see what happens.
jakontil Posted October 18, 2022 Share #3 Posted October 18, 2022 And usually the standby mode is a culprit too, so i disable it for now and it seems to ease the freezing problem
lct Posted October 18, 2022 Share #4 Posted October 18, 2022 I have no problem with the standby mode but since the last FW update i always set auto review to off.
geotrupede Posted October 18, 2022 Share #5 Posted October 18, 2022 my suggestion is to try swapping with another unit, go to shop asap and tell them of the issue, ask to see another unit, if that works then request to be given a new camera. Read the original post. yes but the guy who sold me M11 have other camera and today we made a swap and I find interesting thing 1- I put old battery (from the my first M11, cos my was charged) to his new M11 and from the start and intro wooala - Leica stuck! 2- I take new battery- charge it and put in the new camera- and I use it half of the day, take 65 shots, try every SD what I have in home. And nothing, any freezes. Maybe problem was in battery? Cos in old camera I get problems after few minutes of use and old battery in new M11- same problem. But new battery and new M11 fine (at this moment) What do you think? Somebody claimed?

opera207 Posted October 19, 2022 Share #10 Posted October 19, 2022 Update firmware, if problems not solved, replace the camera. M11's fn buttons not response irregularly at first firmware.
elmars Posted October 19, 2022 Share #11 Posted October 19, 2022 Freezes are a known problem of the M11. Some have many freezes, some occasionally, some no freezes. I don´t think it is the camera or the battery, I think it is the firmware. We have to wait for an update.

Or it is the firmware that is not clever enough to guess that some people using it will have no problems and others will . Wait and see indeed but in the meantime it is not bad to explore the ways to avoid those freezes IMHO.
monark33 Posted October 19, 2022 Author Share #13 Posted October 19, 2022 Seems the problem was really with battery, just let know other users who has same problem. Check battery, there is possible problmes with controller or processor. Peace 😉

I talk to them sometimes via Instagram. Have you tried contacting them? Edit: oh. I saw you got it resolved. I would make friends with Leica Ukraine anyway. Wandering Photographer Posted December 14, 2022 Share #16 Posted December 14, 2022 I had this problem after updating to version 1.5.0.1. The new version of the firmware 1.6 should fix that problem. Upgrade to that and see how it works.
