I assume the Nokton 1.5 lens vignettes a lot at 1.5 while the Nokton 1.2 shows way better vignetting at 1.5. If you don't like vignetting, the Nokton 1.2 will still be the better lens.

The Nokton 50mm 1.5 vintage has horrible vignetting wide open. Not sure if we can expect a better performance from the Nokton 35mm 1.5. Let's wait for some tests.

It's the main reason why I'm selling my Nokton 50/1.5... and why I'm waiting for the first user reports and reviews for this new 35/1.5.

Yeah, a 39mm hole maybe pushing it for f1.5. I’m hoping it doesn’t vignette terribly. I can’t stand heavy vignetting either.

It’s the only reason I stop the FLE down to 1.7 when I really want to use it wide open, but removing vignetting in post looks weird.

Well, I have a matte black one on order. Hope it is a good lens. I probably should have waited to see others showing sample images. But I love the idea of a small, high-quality 35mm lens. Hope this will be my every day lens for my M11.

Incidentally the Voigtlander 35 1.2 III also has 4 aspherical surfaces.

Time will tell how a double asph compares to a asph fle in the lux. But if it performs like its larger F1.2 brother I'm sure it'll be popular choice than the current vm 35 F1.4 alternative. But why voigtlander didn't just go 1.4 instead of 1.5. I understand the difference is negligible but was it so distance from current f1.4 in the market?? They did this for the new 50 lineup..

If I had to choose between a 1.5 and 1.2 for a rangefinder camera I'd choose the 1.5 for sake of portability, viewfinder blockage and better handling when using a m.

It is a smalle version of Nokton 35mm f1.2 - I checked the optical design and it is the same.

Similar, not the same.

Maybe because the old Canon 35/1.5 is the hot thing right now. Those lenses are selling for $4-5000 suddenly. Seems the cine world likes them.

Super heavy vignetting.  But then, what would one expect using a 39mm filter size for a 35mm 1.5 lens?  Even the latest Nokton 35mm 1.4 v2 uses a 43mm filter size.

Hard pass.

Those are from a Sony A7 series body. Going to perform much differently on an M.

This lens is a modern design so it will behave differently from the Leica steel rim. Here the Nokton 35 1.4 could be a better comparison.

The photos seen so far point to a really good compact lens at a fraction of the price of a Summilux.

While the M would be a better camera for this, I am seeing nice colors, minimal distortion and minimal coma. Bokeh is always subjective but I like what is rendered with the 12 blade aperture.

Vignetting is a trade off with such a compact lens. The vignetting on this lens is reasonable and it’s fine for me as I usually add some to photos and it can always be reduced in PP.

Above average amounts of vignetting seems to be the norm with Voigtlander these days...

Even their Ultron 35mm and 28mm demonstrate near obnoxious levels of vignetting where I question the usefulness of the f/2 aperture.

So a 35mm f/1.5 with a 39mm aperture ring just sounds like the same recipe for vignetting with resulting cats eye like affects in the OOF regions. A pity.

The 35 Summicron Asph I has 39mm filter thread, but vignetting wide open it’s definitely much better than Nokton 35/1.4 II or the new 35/2 Ultron II ….

Yes but it has a max aperture of f2, not 1.4 like the Nokton.

More samples from the same gentleman on his a7c, this time with a CV close focus adapter II. I see major barrel distortion.

The close focus adapter is an add-on and not part of the original lens design. Think it will change the parameters and add distortion.

Plus I wait for the test results on an M. That way, comparisons can be more apple to apple.

I received the lens (Type I) today, these are my first impressions:
- Super lightweight
- Best Voigtländer lens build - this thing feels more solid than the lenses I owned before from Voigtländer (Nokton 35mm f1.4ii, Ultron 35mm f2 (Type I) , Nokton 50mm f1.5ii)
- It's sharp (nice micro contrasts) and the bokeh is way smoother than the f1.4 Nokton
- The aperture and focus ring are a joy to use
- No bump at 0.7m unfortunately
