But reasonably priced and Leica does not fit together I don't totally disagree but....It is a matter of perspective, I guess. I remember back in the mid 1970's when I bought my first real camera, a Pentax KX with 55mm f/1.8 SMC Pentax lens, the basic outfit cost me about a month and a half of take home pay. The Leica M6 and 50mm Summicron would have cost me about two months take home pay back in 1996...When I retired at the end of 2019, we were hiring kids a couple years out of college and starting them at $80k + a year...so, maybe $5000 (or $3900 if you buy form the UK right now) for a brand new Leica M-A isn't too far off? It is certainly more than I can justify at present - that's for sure. I also look at how much people spend on a new Sony or other new digital kit that'll be a techno-doorstop in ten years or so...and suddenly, the price of a film Leica doesn't seem totally crazy. Established in 1849 actually Leitz 100th Birthday edition (Leica IIc later converted to IIIf) given to a staff member as a Tombola prize at the 100th birthday celebration on 6th August 1949. As far as I know, there were only 3 such cameras, for 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes. This one was the 2nd prize. Leitz was selling cameras in the early 1900s, but they were from other makers and equipped with Leitz lenses. This advertisement is from 1907. And we all know what came along in 1913 It would be another dozen years before a camera called 'the Leica' hit the market. The first and third photos above are from the book ' Museum Leica' by Lars Netopil. Leica recognises the value of its heritage and I will be giving a talk about this heritage at the AGM of the International Leica Society in Dublin next Friday. I also agree about the 'film infrastructure and education' points made on this thread. William Edited October 10, 2022 by willeica

Supposedly. 😂😂😂😂😂 If that price is including VAT (which would be strange as the VAT percentage is not the same in all € countries) then it’s a mere €200 under the price of an MP. But unsurprising as this and every other detail is what had been disclosed all that time ago.
bags27 Posted October 10, 2022 Author Share #569 Posted October 10, 2022 When shooting 35mm film, I'm now balancing my Leica interests with Nikon (rediscovering an old favorite, but now with Zeiss glass), so I was an unlikely buyer regardless. But with the wait time so incredibly long for the MA and MP, it seems churlish of Leica to redirect its manufacturing potential toward a trophy camera. (Not that all Leicas aren't that already.)
Jeremy Bunting Posted October 10, 2022 Share #570 Posted October 10, 2022 Much more interested in the new lens that will be announced.

LocalHero1953 Posted October 10, 2022 Share #572 Posted October 10, 2022 I now adhere to the theory (I don't know who put it forward) that this is just a replacement for the MP, allowing them to update components, materials, tooling and manufacturing processes, while also achieving lower costs. So nothing really new, but just updating the assembly line and extending the manufacturing lifespan.
Anbaric Posted October 10, 2022 Share #573 Posted October 10, 2022 The one thing they've managed to keep secret until now, which ties into their strategy of marketing to the younger generation of YouTubers and Instagram Influencers responsible for the hype that tripled the price of the M6 over the last 5 years, is that the 'red dot' will now be Millenial Pink.

69xchange Posted October 11, 2022 Share #577 Posted October 11, 2022 Lame… only reason why it’s lame is because it’s gonna be sold out instantly and only those who have connections with dealers will be able to get their hands on the new M6.. also I was really looking forward towards a new and cheaper film camera that isn’t a limited edition. Seems like Leica loves to make these limited edition runs once in awhile to milk some extra profits.

All weather sealed, with a 40 2.0 Summicron and a 1/4000 shutter speed. Base price of $1500 usd. If it’s going to be a rumor, it might as well be a good one.😉

So, that was never going to happen. A new film body with more modern features was also not likely due to this running against their marketing model: film for nostalgia and digital for usability. It’s still cool though that they keep interest in analog shooting. With the risk of being captain obvious, but if the limited run M6 is a fact, can we at least agree on Leica Rumours being a click bait operation needing attention to create add revenue? The campaign to create buzz around a “new cheap film body” was not exactly accurate it seems now. Or I guess it was; just not how and where it mattered.
