Appmax Posted August 13, 2022 Share #1 Posted August 13, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I recently bought a pouch for caring stuff while walking. After getting it, I tried putting my Leica M lenses and they fit nicely. I was thinking of using from time to time when I want to Cary and extra lens and don’t want to carry a larger bag. It is lightly padded and soft so should provide reasonably good protection. The only concern I have is the pouch stays in place with magnets toward the outside back of the pocket (nested inside the canvas). Should I be concerned that somehow the magnets could damage the lens? I assume not but don’t want to learn by wrecking a lens? If the materials in the lenses are titanium, stainless, aluminum, etc, it should not be a problem. My lenses are all current models. Should I have concerns about the magnets in the pouch hurting my lenses? Thank you. Welcome, dear visitor! Gobert Posted August 13, 2022 Share #2 Posted August 13, 2022 I would be very carefull. There is always the risk that your lenses will be converted into Autofocus versions and that is the last thing you want. 1 1
250swb Posted August 13, 2022 Share #3 Posted August 13, 2022 I doubt the lens will be damaged by magnetisation but pickpockets will love magnets because they are silent, unlike Velcro.
Appmax Posted August 13, 2022 Author Share #4 Posted August 13, 2022 Thank you. Good point. The first flap goes inside your pants and the “pocket” goes outside. The magnets keep the first flap and pocket aligned so it doesn’t slide or move around in use. You would notice, but someone could definitely grab the whole thing and easily pull it away. I itemize my lenses and cameras just so I can lower the stress about items getting stolen and take extra precautions when in high crime areas. adan Posted August 14, 2022 Share #7 Posted August 14, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Appmax: Gobert's comment was what is generally called "a joke." Same for rramesh's comment about your pictures being "most attractive." Lot of comedians (or would-be comedians) on this forum. Including me, sometimes. May as well get used to it, if you plan to stay around.

spydrxx Posted August 14, 2022 Share #10 Posted August 14, 2022 But keep your Iphone/Android far removed from the magnets as well as any credit cards/cash station cards.

Hintsalae Posted August 15, 2022 Share #12 Posted August 15, 2022 Only ridiculously powerful magnets are harmful to flash memory inside phones.
Herr Barnack Posted August 16, 2022 Share #13 Posted August 16, 2022 I would not be too concerned about M lenses being damaged by magnets in a lens case or camera bag. I am uneasy about magnets being in close proximity to my M camera bodies - film or digital - though. Some in these parts think I'm being silly. WTFork is this fetish for magnets inn camera bags/ lens cases?!?! Velcro is your friend.
Appmax Posted August 16, 2022 Author Share #14 Posted August 16, 2022 The magnets are not for closure - that is Velcro. The magnets align the fabric flap which goes in your pants or over your belt with the magnets in the pouch. It is designed for walking or running with a phone, keys, etc. Given how small Leica lenses are, they also fit. It makes for a very compact setup. Camera on a strap with a spare lens tucked into a pouch secure (relatively) to your belt/pants.
LeicaS2 Posted August 17, 2022 Share #15 Posted August 17, 2022 Appmax, Thanks for the note on the pouch for a lens. I ordered one and just got it. It is very nice for holding one lens. I prefer the magnetic belt attachment since I can put it on without unbuckling my belt. The velcro cover flap is not really needed. I may cut that off, since the pouch is long and I don't like the noise of velcro opening .

Huss Posted August 18, 2022 Share #19 Posted August 18, 2022 One of my Leica branded/made cases has a magnetic closure. So Leica apparently doesn't have an issue with it. And my Leica M10 protector case has magnets to keep the back flap that covers the LCD attached. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1048207-REG/leica_18748_system_case_size_m.html https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1312218-REG/leica_24020_m10_leather_protector_black.html
