So I was near Covent Garden this morning with the Q2 around my neck when the lug on the right hand side of the camera just fell off. Luckily I was quick enough to catch the strap before the camera hit the pavement.  not far from the Leica store off Oxford street so have taken it in for repair and luckily now they do these in the UK so hopefully not to long before I get it back. Anyway not a great experience and shouldn't happen to such a 'quality' product. Never had anything like this with my Sony's which get a lot more use and the Q2 is only 7 months old!!

There have been several reports of such lug failure. Let's hope they can tell you why it fell off. There's a better chance of that if the repair is in the UK. Wetzlar is a bit anal with feedback on failures and repairs. Were you able to infer anything from what you could see?

I can only presume the screws had come undone  but hadn’t noticed any looseness beforehand. They said they had a reporter version in early in the year with the same issue but the owner had not been so lucky as it was seriously damaged from the fall

Since there are 89 year old Leicas that still have their original lugs, 7 months is a bit disappointing!

Indeed and I have used Sony cameras for years professionally and before that Nikon and Olympus with some pretty heavy lenses and mistreatment without a lug coming off 😂

Hopefully this will be a definitive fix and there isn't some design flaw in the way the lugs are attached that might allow it to happen again. I can see that there are a few previous threads about this happening to the Q and Q2, but of course it's hard to know how common it might be.

Having grown up in an era when cameras were often carried in ever-ready cases, I'm always worried when having to trust two small lugs to support the weight of a heavy camera/lens combo.  As a former engineer, I see those lugs as an expensive disaster just waiting to happen.

Impressive service from Leica Mayfair as I got the camera back today exactly a week after the lug came off. Probably the only Brexit benefit we will ever see in the UK is leica moving their servicing here!!!

Lucky … mine has been out there for a month or so without news, same issue

this happened to me with my original Q a few years ago, they charged me 400 € for the repair which took 8 weeks. I was totally annoyed..

then it happened again with my Q2, repair took 7 weeks, but was for free, even though it was out of warranty.

If you should ever fall over a cliff and have the choice to safe yourself by holding on to a Q strap or a root, go for the root!
