Thanks, I was hoping for a replacement but I will do so then!

Another question, has anyone of you painted your silver m11s? My dealer did not have the black version in stock so I got the silver version and I was planning on painting it myself.

Does krylon spraypaints stick well? I was thinking of sanding the body lightly first.

If you don’t mind taking a few zeros off the value. Take the camera to pieces to separate the chrome bits from the rest, sand them down to the bare metal, respray it, put it back together and keep it forever as no one will want to buy it.

Or trade it in for this one

I'm pretty sure that if you try to do this yourself, you are going to destroy the looks of your M11 as well as its resale/trade in value.

This is an undertaking that should be done by a professional camera refinish technician who has an established track record of getting excellent results; your M11 deserves no less.

Kanto Camera in Japan appears to be the best Leica refinisher/repainter out there:

As for black dot Leica logos, those are available if you do a little searching online.  If you send your M11 to Kanto, they can probably install a black dot after painting it - just ask.

JMHO, but don't try to do something that you will end up regretting after the fact.

Got carried away when I received nonsense answers and one of the earlier replies mentioned painting the dot myself, something I would like to avoid after spending +10KUSD on a M11.

Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement in black?

Basically nowhere. DAG used to sell some but as far as I know they are sold out and I am not sure about the size. I don’t see the problem about painting   If you screw up (unlikely) you can always order a red replacement from Leica and stick that one on. It is just a stick-on badge and has nothing to do with the value of the camera. That is the reason you got joke answers. People play around with those dots, replace the leatherette, and pimp their cameras in multiple ways. It is not an object of reverence.

I see, thanks for the DAG info.  Guess you are right and it is only a mental barrier to pass before starting to modify the camera.

Some folks spend extra on tape (not included) to cover up the red dot.  Still others wait and buy an M version with no dot (like P or M10R or Monochrom versions; so far not available for M11 platform). All kinds of options, including DIY….

Btw, DAG ( Don Goldberg) used to paint the logos himself; no magic supply or factory option (the black M8.2 was the last and only model to come standard with a black dot. Didn’t go well with trademark owners.)

At one time DAGcamera had them but now all he shows in stock is some red dots.  There has been post of people removing the dot and repainting in black and lightly sanding to show the logo.  I think others tried coating the logo with vasoline, then repainting the dot with black paint.  A search on such should show all the options people have taken.  It can be done if you really intend to do so. Just not something most of us concern ourselves with. Good luck.

What's the next question... this looks like fun.

My brother-in-law Chet's M10-P has fancy engraving on top. My silver M11 doesn't, for some reason. Should I figure out how to do this myself? Or should I just ask my neighbor, Gary? I think he has a router in his garage. Thanks.

Lift the camera up and look through the viewfinder. You will soon forget the body colour and see something worth photographing and remembering.  🟢
