I'd take for those the widest I have (now it's 12mm) then crop at will  after returning home 😇.

No, I'm NOT serious 🤞.

Sadly, Anctarctica has been left out, but I definitely recommend 28mm for the local visit.

If you can't find the country you want to visit with a big number across, it is definitely 28mm that is being recommended.

Aliens approaching Earth upside down would bring their 82mm.

Question should be more - Which camera for which country?. There are some countries (I shall not name) where an expensive Leica is a no-no.

Why? Don't need to search too hard to know Leicas' been used practically in all continents and many challenging photographic assignments throughout history.

Only use a Noctilux in dark countries (Northern Hemisphere in Winter)

Portraits in Australia and NZ only use the 75 Summilux wide open - everyone’s skin is wrecked by the harsh sun

Europe, only the latest APO lenses, as everyone’s skin is so beautiful.

UK (no longer in Europe, remember), wide-angle soft focus as you don’t want to get too close

Only use long lenses in Africa, Antarctica and the Arctic (with a good pair of running shoes)

Attractive target for being robbed maybe..- 😉

maybe...but I really don't think that's what he's getting at - especially since he seems to indicate that whole nations are "a no-no".  Seems more like he's hinting at some political issue.

Don't that also be the case with smartphone ?

…. well… yes… except the M represents 10 times value? But that was not my main point… I myself just could not see any ¨environment¨ where the M could not be used as such 😉

That comment was potentially more divisive than those three words “King of Bokeh”. I was a bit concerned that by this time we’d have spreadsheets listing all of the world’s countries shaded and in green and red indicating what countries are worthy of taking your prize from your dead hands gear to and which are not. Thankfully it looks like we managed to swerve that scenario.

I don't know the value ratios smartphone/M.

Happily I don't have smartphone (people ask me since some years 'how one can live without smartphone'), so I'd take my M everywhere *, without fear, as I do this for

so many decades.

*

of course, choosing with care what to use concerning lenses for each country
