In Waterford, Ireland, an experienced craftsman cuts a large Waterford vase.  He spent 8 years learning his first set of skills, then another 8 learning to cut.

Most interesting. Just yesterday I was looking at a bowl of Bohemian Crystal and wondering at the precision of the cut. On a side note, doing this work without mouth/nose mask invites Lung Silicosis.

Some of the cutting (perfect circles) can and are done by computer controlled machines.  All other cutting at Waterford is done by hand, following guidelines drawn on the glass in black felt tip marker.
