I explained myself wrongly.
if I put now ANY CARD in the camera, it freezes.
If i remove card(s) the camera work; only that you need to operate it through the internal memory available.
i tried any card.. different brands… formatted them with formatting external software (camera cannot operate).
Nothing.

Hey, so I shot on Angelbird, 128gb, 280MB/s V60's, on my Black Magic pocket 6k, then, put that card in the M11, and it won't format or work. Tried formatting w/disk utility on my mac, still noting. So going to workshop putting back into the BMP, and format it to a different volume. Let's see if that works.

UPDATE:: tried it, didn't work. So now 2 of my 4 cards don't work. Contacting Angelbird.

I have no experience with Angelbird cards but you may wish to format yours with SD Card Formatter. Did work for me with various cards for a dozen years.

Ict,  +1.   I totally agree with you.  Since using SD Card Formatter and either San Disk UHS 1 or Delkin Black SD cards, not a single freeze since my long ago M240 days and subsequent, M10/M10-M + R and M11-M models. r/ Mark

Thanks for all these posts.

I've experienced two "SD card error" messages in a new M11 Monochrom. Changing cards helped.

This morning after having the camera out in cold (25 degrees F / -3.8 degres C), coming inside, changing the ISO, taking the 128GB Lexar Pro UHS-II 300MB/s 2000x card out, uploading to LR from my MacBook Pro, and putting the card back in the M11 M with today's firmware upgrade, the red SD card error message appeared on the screen.

Replaced the card with a new Delkin UHS-1 card that KEH sold me with the camera, formatted it in camera, and camera works fine.

I was able to pull up the images on the Lexar card that generated the error message, but when I put that Lexar card back in the camera, the camera froze.

Camera was fine after replacing the Lexar card with the new Delkin card, and it wrote to the Delkin card.

Wonder if I may be somehow damaging a card by not waiting to take it out of the PowerBook after moving the icon to the trash, or if the temperature change could have been a factor per this dated link.

Thank you for reading and for any suggestions you may have.

Hi all

After just having the M11 a few days, for some reason suddenly today it stopped working with my SD cards.

SD card goes in = orange light stays on at the rear and I can’t access the menu or take any shots.

no SD card in = I can access menu etc.

I have tried about 7 or 8 SD cards now and only a very slow, old one seems to work. However, the newer ones I have been using happily all week don’t work at all (but are fine in other cameras and on computer).

anyone else had any issues, or any ideas what I can do?  I have left battery out for 10 mins. Reset camera etc. nothing makes a difference

very concerning to have such a problem in the first week

all thoughts and ideas welcome.

Was this bought used or new? The M11 has a reputation of not being very reliable. Seems like the SD card reader inside the camera is dead.

personally what I would do is return this. Get my money back and buy a brand new M10R and just focus on taking pictures.

SD Card Formatter

My M11 (I have owned it less than one month) often locks and refuses to turn on or take the photo.  If I am reading this thread correctly, some folks have had good results using "SD Card Formatter" as if that is a third party app.  (I have formatted using my windows machine just after the most recent firm update, and also tried formating in camera, and neither of those solved my locked up events.  My SD card is a San DIsk Extreme UHS 1 (Class 10), 256 GB (and was working without fail in my M-10-P that I traded for the M11.  Thank you in advance.

Have you tried leaving the card out of the camera and just using the internal memory? That’s an easy way to discover if perhaps the card is creating problems.

Leica have stated that some UHS-1 cards are causing issues and that they are working on a fix. Mind blowing, I know, but can you try use a UHS-II card out to rule that out?

It is a free software. I use it on all my cameras since 2014 or thereabout. I have had no freezes since then but i don't know if this is related.

I have not yet tried that, but I will, thanks.

I found the software by name in this forum- using a better search phrase.  Been running for hours.

Thank you, I will try that if the SD Formatter fails.

Hours?  I know it can take a while doing a low level format but hours seems a bit excessive.  I'd suspect a bad card.   They do go bad once on a while.  I've probably thrown 2 or 3 away in the last 10 years.
