It makes it unique. It makes it yours. You’re already shooting a Leica M Rangefinder. It’s already an oddball. Let Sony cameras all look the same. You’re a Leica M shooter. Now let us all repeat the Leica M Creed. The Leica M Creed This is my Leica. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My Leica is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Leica is useless. Without my Leica, I am useless. I must fire my shutter true. I must shoot straighter than Sony guys who are trying to fire 30 frames a second. I must shoot the Decisive Moment before them. I will ... Welcome, dear visitor! This is borrowed from military usage, and actually makes sense, especially in reference to the days when soldiers carried rifles that fired more powerful cartridges, than today. (Today’s soldier can use a radio to request artillery or air support.) Substitute “rifle” for “Leica,” and substitute “trigger” for “shutter,” to see the original text, up to the point of the word “Sony,” at which it deviates farther. Not having been a U.S. Marine, I cannot provide exact wording. Edited May 4, 2022 by RexGig0

Not having been a U.S. Marine, I cannot provide exact wording. 1. This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. 2. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. 3. My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will … 4. My rifle and myself know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit…. 5. My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my rifle clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will …. 6. Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life. 7. So be it, until victory is America’s and there is no enemy, but peace!!

Try not to worry much, I've noticed that the OP reinvents himself (changes screen names) about every two weeks. This time he is a Marine.🤪 Kind of figured he is just bored and trying to provide some entertainment and spice up the forum a bit. Once I realized that, I've started looking forward to his posts.😉
Lukitas Posted May 4, 2022 Share #10 Posted May 4, 2022 Paraphrased from the Kubrick movie 'Full metal jacket'. Surprised you guys didn't get the reference, nor the joke. One shouldn't take the military too seriously, they do that very well themselves.

We are the saviors of my life. 7. So be it, until victory is America’s and there is no enemy, but peace!! The vast majority of those who have never served in the military have no grasp of this. The warrior ethos causes them anxiety and makes them queasy. I remember long ago when Gen. Colin Powell gave a press conference during the beginning days of the first gulf war. He was asked about the strategy his army would employ against the Iraqi army. His reply was to the point: "First we are going to cut it off from its resupply lines. Then we are going to kill it." His response caused much hand wringing and histrionics in genteel quarters. As a result, Powell was verbally counseled by his boss about using such plain language. But he spoke the truth. Apparently speaking the truth is not welcome in some quarters of society, a problem which endures to this day. In spite of what some may think, a nation's military is not some sort of Peace Corps with nice looking uniforms and merit badges, nor is it welfare with uniforms or gen Z daycare. It is a killing machine, plain and simple. A military's sole reason for existing is, when the need arises, to hunt and kill the enemies of its home nation when deterrence is unsuccessful and if the enemy nation will not exercise common sense and participate in diplomatic solutions. Olaf_ZG Posted May 5, 2022 Share #13 Posted May 5, 2022 I still prefer much more the “make love, not war” thing. Though will not do it with my Leica… she could witness maybe, but then, those images would be very private 😇

RayD28 Posted May 6, 2022 Share #18 Posted May 6, 2022 (edited) My favorite saying in the Army was "Three tears in a bucket, if that don't fill it fu%k it." 🙂 Unfortunately, it carried over to my image making. So in your mind, anyone in any nation's military who is issued a rifle to do their job is a nutcase. Got it. This kind of "thinking" brings to mind the words of John Stuart Mill: Quote "A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." And the words of George Orwell: Quote “One can only abjure violence because others are prepared to endure violence on their behalf.” It seems obvious that a little less name calling and a little more respect for those who volunteer to endure violence on behalf of others is in order. Regardless of nationality, all soldiers bleed red in their efforts to defend the freedom and safety of their less than grateful countrymen. Got it. Get your logic straight. 'All people with guns are nutcases' is far from 'Some nutcases have guns'. Get other things straight, too.
