I don’t recommend the Ultron 35mm. I had it and sold it because it couldn’t keep up with the demands of the 10-R and I bought a Leica Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH. I have since purchased a Voigtlander 35/2 APO Lanthar and I prefer it to the Summicron, especially on the M11, since the APO construction delivers sharper images and costs significantly less. The only down side is the issue of lens coding, but I can live with that. The 35 APO virtually lives on my M11.

That 35mm VM APO Lanthar is indeed insane.

Hi all. Receiving my silver M11 (first-time M user). While I am figuring out what first Leica lens to buy, I would like to buy a couple Voigtlander lenses to get me started.

If I were you I would only buy 1 VL lens. This lens may just be your forever lens and you’ll skip the Leica version.

You should get the 28f2 Ultron II to start. This is a hard lens to beat even for Leica. Anything this small won’t be as good and as fast. If you offered me the 28 summicron I wouldn’t take it.  I would keep my Ultron II

For 50mm there is no VL lens better than the 50f2 APO-Lanthar. If you want a VL lens that will get what you paid for out of the M11 sensor then get that lens.

But you may just want to get a Summilux and skip a 50 VL

for me the 28 Ultron II and a 50f1.4 Summilux would be all the lenses I would need.

The Leica version of the 50 APO is good, but it’s not $8,000 better than the VL 50APO-Lanthar.

To be honest with those 2 lenses you may just skip the Leica ones altogether. At that point you’re just paying for the Leica name in the front of the lens.

the 50 summilux is very unique however and VL has nothing that awesome at f1.4 (or f1.5 for that matter).

Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.5 Aspherical II MC is a good lens.

Had it. Good yes. Awesome no. Especially on a high MP sensor. The softness and aberrations are quite obvious. On the 24MP sensors it performs quite well though.
