Is this supposed to be included in the topic of this thread?

The topic of this thread was about Leica ending APSC , therefore CL, and TL.
Then, what would come next! …
As some were thinking of leaving Leica, some others, including myself, suggested it would be interesting to have another thread about people who decide to leave the Leica forum, their thoughts and experiences with another camera; and also to allow them to still posting in LUF.

It was not suggested to have this topic inside this original topic, but to have another! It was just a thought! Some may agree and some may disagree. This is a public forum, after all.

I think so.  This is how I have always understood threads.  Now we have expressed our disappointment and our hope that maybe a CL2 will come.  BUT Deep down, there are hardly many who believe in it anymore.

Now the conclusion is that Leica apsc does NOT continue.

So I think we should move on and hear what we so do…?  It could be Leica or other brands.  Common to most Leica apsc owners - that they have loved the CL - is that it is small and it is good quality and maybe that it is Leica.

If I were to start, I think that - over time - I will stop and sell my TL2 and all optics.

Then I will buy Q (28-75) and use my Canon tele and everything else.  My MD will probably be used less and less to eventually be sold as well.

Fine with another thread.  It's exciting what we do when Leica APSC is no longer here.  😊

OK folks i have nothing against the idea of opening a new thread or course but it's just that i realize i'm the top poster in the current thread but also a happy Sony user  so maybe it's time for me to give way to colleagues who could be more interested than i am in this poignant issue of despaired Leica users obliged to take pictures with some inferior/uncool/ugly or whatever Sony cameras ;)

Since when is posting in this forum exclusive to Leica owners??

I have no idea!…

But as some folks with Sony, etc… are also posting; I guess there is no problem. I just wanted to make sure since it was suggested about another thread by another person for those who may or have left this site,  I supported the idea, hoping to not loose them! Voila!… ;)

Jaap,

I don't think many of us CL enthusiasts are thinking in terms of sensor size. We are, I believe, thinking in terms of the CL's light weight, the light weight of the lenses, the compact size, allied to good image quality. Just imagine the howls of anger if Leica said the M12 is going to have an electronically coupled lens mount, which will not be backwards compatible with non-electronic M lenses, because it is time we moved on from a 1953 vintage lens mount. By dumping the APS-C range of cameras, that is what in effect, they are saying to us Leica APS-C system owners.

The TL lenses turn even a lump like the S5 into a fairly compact combination, Wilson. Especially the 55-135 makes for a better handling combo than that lens on the CL. If Panasonic would put the S1R sensor in a trimmed down S6 I would not miss the CL.

I use the Panasonic 70-200 to get OIS on the CL. It is quite a neat lens, about half the size of the 90-280L.

Dear jaapv, I appreciate your view of Panasonic - to be honest I do not know their camera.  I have been trying their first camera.  Honestly, I'm a Leica man, otherwise it might as well be Canon or Nikon.  📷❤️ So if I were to be interested in Panasonic then it would have to be a replacement for the Leica CL.  Not a replacement for my Canon.  I have realized that it will never be a Big SL Mount.  Canon (and Nikon) are so far ahead of the Leica L in AF and the number of long telephoto lenses,  that L Mount does not have a chance.  Leica never comes close to Canon and Nikon in those areas.  Those who say otherwise I think I have not tried a Canon or Nikon system (Sony) But I have Leica M lenses (and TL)   How do they work with Panasonic ?

I've even switched to Canon and I'm impressed with how fast AF is.  How nice it is with a fold-out LCD.  How good quality the lenses are.  How "cheap" it is.  How many options I now have with long telephoto (will try nature and bird photography).  Yes and I can go on.  But one thing is for sure - no one can replace my Leica MD.  But APSC and SL2 can easily replace other brand.  I have no problems with colors or cormorant images.  Canon is exactly on the same level as Leica.

Same with me, except that I can no longer focus a rangefinder in critical situations - f/8 landscape photography would be no problem, but… The only thing I am missing is compactness. But then I find a Canon R6 more comfortable to hold than an M without handgrip or protector. And yes - the special character of each Leica lens.. I can use them with Canon bodies as long as I stay away from wide angles. The macro and tele lenses opened a new world for me.

With only a very narrow field of view (not talking about lenses here) my feeling is that Leica can do well by focusing (oh boy, another pun) on what they do best. I think they have a particularly good reputation for their m-mount lenses and they don't seem to have trouble maintaining that reputation despite having competitors. They also do well with colour science (whatever that means) because my only experience with Leica colour was on the CL during the brief time I owned it and I found the colour results to be very pleasing. And they do well with both Rangefinder and EVF based interface. So, I'd like to see an affordable M. It would be brave of Leica to risk an impact on sales of the M11 but you have to take some risks to prosper.

It is not quite a replacement for the CL but more of a complement voor heavier and longer lenses. The things I like are that it is relatively compact for the type of camera-but no match for the CL-and that it can be set to be operated like an analog camera (well, almost) forgetting about all the buttons and menus, more so than CL or SL. It plays very well with Leica lenses, even thé Voigtlander 12mm shows no vignette or nasties. For TL lenses a bit more resolution would be nice. The main gripe is that I need to work the colours to match Leica.

Having shot mostly with Nikon SLRs (and one Sony A7II) up to that point, I still remember with great fondness of the awe that struck me when I first looked through the CL's viewfinder while in LCE's Strand branch. It was definitely the moment I fell in love with the CL and despite having tested a number of cameras that day - I recall the Fuji X-H1 and Nikon Df, among others - I left that day with the CL in my backpack. No regrets doing so, to this day.

I agree - the CL EVF blew me away when I first tried it, and is one of the main reasons I own the camera today.

Members are happy in using their digital CL camera, wish replacement model CL2 to be introduced ; when the wish is not fulfilled, some members jump the boat as quick as they can while some members choose to stay by keep using their digital CL with enjoyments they find from the very first day.  I am the later one and don’t need to know to what other camera brand other members choose after selling their digital CL.
L mount products are supplying/supporting by several manufacturers and I would be interested to know as it may benefit to me as digital CL user.  Non-L mount and non-M mount information are not needed in this forum IMHO.

Thanks
