Just got a mount issue with my 28mm bought this summer that I discover few days ago because I never tested on a Leica M camera before, they need to change the mount and the lens from Italy has to go to Germany and then to Japan and back... all this require 2/3 months on a new lens.

Since I also ask for a paid service at a really experience shop and they suggest me to go with official assistance because if they need a spare they can't have it I now questioning my self on my lens

Just got a new VM 35mm f1.4 Nokton MC II and I'm still in return window, I would like to know what other option I can have in new and used makes under 1000€ for a compact lens

I guess the Zeiss 35mm  f2 may be the closest

The Zeiss 35mm f/2 is a very well-regarded lens. Notably, all but one of the currently-produced Zeiss ZM lenses are manufactured by by Cosina, in Japan. Currently-made Voigtlander lenses are also made by Cosina, in Japan. Cosina usually does very good work. Nobody is perfect.

I had a prior relationship with Zeiss and Voigtlander DSLR lenses, before I added the Leica M system, almost four years ago. I have Leica, Zeiss ZM, and Voigtlander VM lenses. I have no actual, personal experience with the Zeiss 35mm f/2 lens, as I opted for the Zeiss Distagon 35mm f/1.4 ZM.

Bed experience with a Voigtlander... Oh dear, what happened? 🤔

The Nokton you already have is a unique lens, a keeper w/o doubt! If you want to add one of the best 35 out there, a super performer and a very few cons, the Zeiss 38/2.8 ZM. Sometimes it is so good that it could be boring... It's about $1k for a brand new one. Two very different lenses with different purposes.

They also share the same 43mm filter thread, it's an advantage.

It does have an issue on the mount that I did not notice adapting the lens on a Nikon Z7 but it is noticeable on Leica M since it struggles to fit

the only way to have it repair is that they send it back to Japan via Germany so about 2/3 months

I was joking about "bed experience" vs "bad experience"

Maybe you wanted to say bad, but you finally went to bed with a Voigtlander 🤔

The 35 1.4 v2 Voigtlander that I have is superb.  I also have the Zeiss ZM 35 1.4, and the Lux FLE 35 1.4, so it is not a case of not being able to get 'better' lenses.

What is the issue that you have with yours?

Here are selfie pics in a mirror taken with all three to compare.  All three look great.  What is also really nice about the Voigtlander is it is tiny.

The one place that I do notice where the Voigtlander is worse is a night at 1.4, where out of focus lights in the background to the side are distorted.  With the Leica and the Zeiss they are much 'cleaner'. I think the term is coma.

I'm not quite following... he has bad experience with a 28mm (VM?) and presuming the new 35mm also have issues?

I'm in EU and never thought that with a white market lens needs to get back to Japan to get serviced, Voiglander doesn't have any service center in EU

So if you have an issue with your lens the have to send it back to Japan and it takes about 2 to 3 months

I just got a Nokton 35mm f1.4 v2 and I like it but at 1.4 it has occasionally some gusting that disappear at f1.7

Tomorrow I'm going to check out with Zeiss if they service their lens in EU and I was evaluating to return Voigtlander and get a Zeiss 35mm f2 instead

I can't see the aperture of your shots, do you ever get ghosting at f1.4?

I was under the impression (without really knowing) that all of the current Zeiss ZM lenses were made by Cosina. Which one isn't?

All the shots were at 1.4.  Not sure what you mean by ghosting, but I have not noticed any optical issues.

in some occasion I can see a glow, everything gets really soft at f1.4 I suspect that image is sharper only at closer distance

I have both the Nokton 35 II and the Zeiss 35 f2.0. My Zeiss did need to be serviced to correct focus when new, so there can be issues with any brand. After service the Zeiss gives very nice images, but I don’t like the larger size. I prefer the Nokton, and use it on film and on my M9 where it’s speed is handy in low light. My M10 normally uses a Summarit 35 2.5 which combines small size with excellent images and handling.

The problem is not to have an issue on the lens, it service time

Just did a quick test, this 100% crop is on the side ( not corner ) taken with 35mm f1.4 Nokton II

As you can see it has some sort of glow wide open, I did read before buying but if you see different shot side by side gets really noticeable - you can read aperture speed in file name ( before .DNG )

shoot on M 240
