I think it is a much better lens than the Q lens, though the Q lens is good. It is sharper in the edges, has an even more pleasing character and is overall just a great lens. But I don't hold that against the Q lens...the 35mm Summarit cost significantly more than the entire Q camera, and is around 4 or 5 times the size. If it were not better, that would be surprising.

I used this lens as a general wide angle, but it did find a lot of use in my streetlight project. The lack of distortion and really good edge to edge sharpness (especially when stopped down to 8 or 11) made it great for wide angles compositions. It has nice sun stars too.

A few portraits I can find handy. I haven't seen a WA can have this type of corner that free of cat eyes at WO. (not shown in these samples)  Not to mention about the sharpness, transition and bokeh.  A truly Leica S show off it is. Samples are with S2 and S006.

I began with the 70mm Summarit-S that came with the camera in 2015, then the 24mm (also 2015) followed by the 120 macro, then finally the 35mm in 2016. I sold the 24mm  after 18 months as it wasn't getting much use and my last (or latest) purchase was the T-S Apo-Elmar-S just a month ago. I have the same S(006) body, with a new sensor and love the files it produces.  I'll just keep using it until it dies beyond repair then think about either a replacement S or get an SL2 and adapter to use the wonderful S lenses.

I got the Contax 35 and 140 first. So first S was 70. Followed quickly by 35 and 120. Then 24, 45, 30-90, 100, and 180 over the years.

That's a pretty amazing collection of glass. A friend let me use his 30-90 not long ago, it was fine, but we never bonded.

I used to own the M9 for many years, and the files from the 006 are quite similar (more DR, though, and somewhat smoother). We have similar goals in life I gather, namely, hanging on to that camera until it goes the way of all earthly possessions. Congratulations on the T-S lens, a rare and specialised beast, this one.

I had an M9 for 8 years, just sold it last year and yes, the CCD sensors render lovely files. Since getting the T-S last month I've been tempted to get an SL2 or used S(007) to be able to have live view for better setting up of tilt/shift effects.  So far I'm holding off the temptation but it's difficult....

The Q-lens is special, there is software behind it, I heard.

Yes indeed. Used to own Leica Q for two months and I was not at all marveled by its performance.

There is a HUGE amount of distortion that is software corrected and in fact affects resolution. Yes it is a nice combo but as a M-Summicron 28 owner and owner of a smartphone I concluded that Q's output is too similar to Smartphone's output hence I sent it back.

I'm not saying Q and its lens is a bad tool, on contrary I think it is a nice and easy entrance point in Leica world.

Thanks for this. From my experience, the 35 (=28mm in FF terms) would be much easier to work with than a "super-wide" like the 24 (=19mm in FF terms) you mention.

The 30 is almost the same as 35 except it's a 30.:). A bit longer and a bit slower.  The there's 45, and bit by bit you have all 9 AF lenses.  Then you add the T/S et voila!  The most amazing kit complete.  And after all the AF motors are updated, you take care of it for the next generation.

Different cycles of planning with the S system than with, say, the M series.
Re the 45mm, I looked at it and was quite interested at one point, but it's a) too close to my Contax 55, and b) a BEAST of a lens.
Since you have all 9 lenses, how often do you use the 180mm, for example?

Not being @setuporg, but having most of the S-lenses, my preferences (for my type of shooting) are: S35, S70, S120. Thereafter I use S100 and S180 most, with a preference for S180. And finally, I use S45 more often than S24.

I find myself using 70, 100 and 45 often when I pick up the S, not as often as before.

Then one of 30/35 for a wider but still reasonable angle.

120 for portraits.

24 and zoom are heavier.  For wide scenes or trips.

180 rarest of all — for kids sports.  And T/S a curiosity.

Software correction - I don't care if the optical system is pure glass or synthesized aperture. It's the results that count. Many lens makers use software correction to reduce other aberrations and make a more "perfect" lens. I don't care for that look. I like the Q lens. A wide angle large aperture macro is unusual enough and it's great for architecture and landscape as well.

Other S lenses - I go to extremes. My two lens system is a 24 and a 120. Lately, I've been playing with adapted 250mm and 350mm Zeiss lenses. They need a tripod even for focusing, so that's a more serious outing. On bad weather days, I take one lens and it's either the 35 or the 70. I love the 180, but seldom use it (go figure). I have the 45 and never use it - everyone raves about it so I think that some day I may see what they're talking about. I have the 100 and never use it. It's too hard to focus wide open and has a look different from the rest of the S line. I use the 120 instead.

Simply amazing!  Looks like I need to get my S007 back out (if I can find it).
