HuntingSand Posted January 25, 2022 Share #1 Posted January 25, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was wondering how you use your 35mm lens? Landscapes mostly, or cityscapes, or even street? I realize it's a very flexible focal range (28mm FF), the whole Q concept is based on that FL. I have the option to add this lens to my bag. Thanks for any input.
Advertisement Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Hi HuntingSand, Take a look here Any opinions on the S Summarit 35mm?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
John McMaster Posted January 25, 2022 Share #2 Posted January 25, 2022 Just give in, you are likely to end up with at least 6 S lenses 😉 john 1
mgrayson3 Posted January 25, 2022 Share #3 Posted January 25, 2022 The Q lens is a miracle. Wide aperture. Macro. The S 35 is much more like the 28 Summicron M lens. Until the 24mm came out, the 35 was my most used lens.
BernardC Posted January 25, 2022 Share #4 Posted January 25, 2022 Not much to say. It's a great lens, significantly better than any adapted option. Distortion is minimal, it's sharp from wide-open, and it renders like the other S lenses in terms of colour, micro-contrast, etc. That's really the hidden strength of the S system: all the lenses are consistently great. Pick the focal lengths that you need, or buy them all (as John suggests). I use mine for event work and environmental portraiture. The wide-open sharpness really lets your subjects pop, and the low distortion is great when your background includes straight lines.
jankap Posted January 25, 2022 Share #5 Posted January 25, 2022 The Q-lens is special, there is software behind it, I heard.
John McMaster Posted January 25, 2022 Share #6 Posted January 25, 2022 I think there is with all EVF only lenses (SL, Q, Sony etc), only the optical ones (Leica M, R and S, Hasselblad V etc) were corrected as well as possible in optics. john

My count stands at four right now, so there's room for development, I agree.

From my experience, the 35 (=28mm in FF terms) would be much easier to work with than a "super-wide" like the 24 (=19mm in FF terms) you mention. I'm all in favor of straight lines (as far as they exist in the real world) 🙂
Sailronin Posted January 25, 2022 Share #10 Posted January 25, 2022 The 35mm Summarit-S is a wonderful lens. I use it for landscape and street shooting as it approximates a 28mm on a 35mm camera. I've not been disappointed with any S lens, they are the best Leica has ever produced.
John McMaster Posted January 25, 2022 Share #11 Posted January 25, 2022 All S lenses are wonderful, although I am not too fond of the zoom. Personally I go towards 24mm and 45mm but still use the 35mm if needed. john
tom0511 Posted January 25, 2022 Share #12 Posted January 25, 2022 +1 this was my second S lens after the 70. great combo. Its also lighter and a bit shorter dimension than the 30 and the 45. Imo very flexible and great lens. Clearly beats the Q or M 28 mm lens optically, specially in the corners.

ZHNL Posted January 25, 2022 Share #15 Posted January 25, 2022 As good as you can get. I have zero complain about it other than size.

Size is relative with the S lenses I suppose. Smaller than the 45mm it is I gather.

Yes, I prefer its output to 45mm as well though at different focal. 35mm is my favorite 28mm(FF) lenses ever touched and I have had a lot of them.
