105012 Posted March 1, 2022 Share #181 Posted March 1, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Even on film I don't think a half stop is important, but just an opinion. And again in my view, the massive jump in size/weight/price is not worth it. The 1.2 is kind of a sweet spot in terms of size/weight/price for a faster than f/2 lens. I keep it for those times when I think I am likely to need another stop (yes, and a half stop bonus) over a trusty 'cron.

I think the difference in transmission in the central area is more than half a stop. That said, the f/1 vignettes clearly more in the corners than the f/1.2 lens does. In general, my impression is that while I think there is a sensible advantage with the f/1 in the central area, it is lost in the sides and corners compared to the f/1.2 lens.

There is clearly a "use case" for the F1 lens but a far more limited one than many of us may have hoped for when we read the original announcement. With very few exceptions the F1.2 lens appears to be the better option particularly considering the rather significant cost difference.
