That’s quite the treatise on the visoflex2, and I guess that for anyone looking for a vertical viewfinder it’s the best and only option. I was hoping it would make close focusing of the summilux lenses easier, or faster, and found it to be not very impressive for this purpose even apart from the added bulk.

Why did you not find it easier? I feel like at all focal lengths, the focus peaking help quickly nail focus for me. Especially with the 50 and 90mm lenses.

Just curious as to how you used it. Cheers!!

Not much to add I'm afraid! The delay in magnification combined with small, rather coarse, image made it a bit of a chore, for me.

It's compact enough that it always sits on top of my M11. Generally, I do think the rangefinder is faster to focus. But there are a few circumstances where I prefer the EVF.

  • Difficult lighting where I want to monitor the exposure as I'm shooting;
  • Noctilux lenses when shooting wide open;
  • Low angles. It's great to be able to tilt the Visoflex all the way up and shoot from close to waist-level.

Great to have both options handy.

decent device, the colour and image quality is determined by the sensor gain to produce sufficient fps and the given settings, which means it can be noisy. then when you review images is better.

as for focusing agree with many, no chance without zooming in and for fast situation the only practical way is burst + zoom in for distance and then spray and pray

unless of course object is static or slow

it is useful for adapter with lenses which are not RF coupled, very useful. it is also useful in dark settings to check focus and lastly to check exposure, but that you can do also on rear screen.

I had one which was failing, the replacement works, even if I dropped it and the back opened. it is now fixed with gaffer tape which is wabi-sabi cool.

Yes, but the M11 is so full that Leica even needed to develop a folded main board. Any space for a flip screen would have to be found by thickening the body.

The long flange distance of the M mount really limits what they can do, including IBIS. But Fujifilm managed to use the same space the screen took up before, perhaps a combination of a thinner panel and the worlds thinnest hinge system. Leica may already be at the limit for space, IDK.

What Fujifilm was able to do with the X100V tilt screen should give you hope. Can’t even tell it’s there at first glance.

On the whole, I think the EVF accessory is a fiddly thing, LV with a (limited) swivel back screen would be more practical IMHO.

I agree that the concept is useful but it so completely goes against the grain of what an M is that I shudder just thinking of it

It would have to be so discrete that it would be unnoticeable that it was a flip screen. That way purists could just ignore it. The X100V just has a little tab on one side that is hard to notice.

I think we're much more likely to see a tilt screen on the SL3 and Q3 before it ever comes to the M, though.

Well, we already got accustomed to the M having a screen, would a limited swivel function make it less of an M?

I don't have a problem with a digital camera having a screen, I find it quite helpful when navigating its menues.

But to answer your question, what's next? a selfie mode? Poor Herr Barnack 😀

I have the Viso 2 on my M10M and it’s not coming off. I even bought a Thumbie to replace the Thumbs Up. I use mostly wide angles so it’s good to be able to compose through the lens without any blockage like with external optical finders. Focusing isn’t an issue because I can always use the rangefinder. I like the built quality and lower profile over the previous version. The crop when used on the M10 doesn’t bother me.

My Visoflex 2 arrived today, and I can attest to its' hight quality, and EVF focusing assistance (especially in low light).  Nothing to do with the Menu, and there are no special instructions (except for the M11 Owner's Manual brief discussion about it). You just add it to the camera and use it.  However, I realized that my expensive M11 thumb grip has to come off, so I'll need to get used to not having it. I plan to leave the Visoflex 2 on my M11 all the time.

The "Thumbie" works fine with the Visoflex 2 (it is black paint normally).
