Everyone can take a microscope to this camera and go to town, you can look for all the faults and negative aspects till the cows come home.

after 40 + years of using photo gear in every format and just about every brand both professionally and for a hobby the M11 has no weaknesses for its intended use .. a compact 35mm full frame manual focus RANGEFINDER CAMERA capable of medium format IQ.
the Negative is the cost. It is bloody expensive.

I do not have one yet - but based on my reading here and of other sources, I couldn't agree more.

But - none of us are looking for cheap.

I don't mind the lightness of the camera body. Buttons all feel ok, the scroll wheel does feel different but it is what it is.

I do have a fault with the function button (next to the shutter release) though and it seems a few others have the same fault.

It is only intermittently registering a press and it's unrelated to any short/long duration differences. I've sent an email off to Leica Australia so hopefully I'll be able to send it back and get a replacement assuming stock is available. Otherwise I might just opt for a refund and wait until the next version is released.

I found the same issue with the front function button on the M10 - somehow my finger was never the right shape - until some very helpful chap on this forum pointed out the utility of a little silicon bump (eg for kitchen cabinets) and I haven't looked back.  Unless your copy is faulty (like my ISO dial was on my first M10) why not enjoy the M11 and accept and adapt and enjoy.

I also have this fault. I chalked it up to being similar to the m10r scroll wheel in that it only registered when it was turned deliberately (almost like the caps lock key on a mac). I've been ignoring it, but I guess the camera will have to go back. I share in your disappointment.

I get what you're saying and I thought it was an issue with my finger at first too, but in my tests with even very clear and deliberate pressing with the tip of my fingernail (camera resting on the desk) it still wouldn't register.

If it was merely a pressure issue (the pad of my finger not pressing hard enough for example) then I could understand and work around it, but in my case it's something else - If I can press it 5 or 6 times in a row without issue, but the 7th, 8th, and 9th times it fails to register even under test conditions... that's a fault.

A shame sure, but it's just one of those things with electronics. It's heading back to Leica today for testing and hopefully the next one works as intended. Apparently my replacement is the second last unit in the country - they're still waiting to find out when the next shipment is coming from Germany.

I checked all three function buttons on my m11 and they register each time without failure.  If you are having issues with your buttons I would suggest trying to reset the camera (in case some settings are causing issues) and if the problem persists definitely exchange the camera for a new one. Based on posts on this forum, people aren't having to wait more than a week for their m11 (if that) and i would hope that your deal would prioritize any incoming shipments to replace bad copies.

Hope you get a replacement quickly - and easily.  And enjoy.

Yep this was my first thought - just a matter of getting used to how to press it. And there is absolutely a right way to press it (which is still strange for a button like this, IMO). But in addition to that, I definitely have a repeatable fault - when it fails to register it often fails for a several presses in a row before it starts working again.

I really think that a re-think of that button is in order. The long press / short press thing is fine, but I do think that some of us will struggle to get a consistent press on that button at the best of times. I'll have a better chance to play when I get the replacement.

That very same port is "exposed" on thousands of cell phones that are getting far more use (in inclement weather even) than any camera will ever get.  We don't hear about any problems with these ports being damaged by water or lint or anything else.  I think we will start to see a ton of cameras using the same approach as Leica.

oh i see, well, i don't use my phone when its raining or even drizzling, perhaps you do.

But people do snorkel and film underwater with their phones.

your phones have the same port exposed and full of pocket lint :)

They make weather proof usb-c

🙂

I have new phone which is water-dust sealed, shock and freeze proofed. It has build-in seals.

Just be aware, the M11 is not certified water sealed. Although many have used the camera in the rain, its a risk you would take as it wouldn't be covered under warranty.

None of the M lenses are weather sealed,  either. No gaskets.

Correct, but the USB-C port, which seems to most concern folks, is said to be IP67 rated.

This is a Vertu cell phone. The depicted model costs $1.1 million, but their regular consumer models start at about $9.000.

When the M11 wasn’t announced in November 2021 I bought one of the last M10R BP that my Leica store had. When it arrived I LOVED the look and feel of it. It’s just stunning aesthetically. And I immediately loved the photos coming off it, I think the 40mp sensor has a really lovely look over the m10’s 24mp sensor.

I got an M11 black straight away without seeing in the shop first and when the box arrived (I’d already read Jonathan Slack’s review) I was surprised by the lighter feel and my knee-jerk reaction was “This feels like a toy!” But now using it for a week or so I am used to it. still not crazy about the aesthetics and will probably switch to the -P edition but you can’t have everything.
As for the 10R BP? It is still beautiful but I am selling it as I don’t really have call for a stack of cameras on the shelf.

For the entire time been using M, never thought of any other function button… now it makes me wonder if those buttons and wheels of my m10p now r work as intended
