Great review Jono. I am still using M240 and so far haven't seen any reason to upgrade but now I am tempted. I can carry two small 28mm and 90mm lenses on my backpacking trip with M11 and cover everything! 🙂

Rest is bonus.

Why turn the camera off? Keep it on standby and it is immediately available. Furthermore, all good photography is based on anticipation, being ready, not on reaction. (sorry about the preaching tone)

lol, Photography is about seeing and reacting to what to see... and you have to do this fast sometimes. Even on standby it takes forever to wake 2+ sec ....Thanks for the silly lecture...

You are right, putting it on standby does not help. You need to follow Jono's advice, and that is what I am doing:

if you switch the power saving mode off completely, then the camera is always ready, and the battery lasts a day - even with the EVF on.

I wish there was a Camera Standby setting of 30 minutes or 1 hour, just in case I forget to turn the camera off.

It is not 2+ seconds in fact it a tad under one second from the flick of the switch, and when I am in a situation where I have to keep up with the action ? Or in a paid photo shoot just keep the camera awake by turning off the sleep and it’s always responsive . The Battery capacity is huge so keep it on

My M11 takes 5 seconds from turning on to the first shot. Firmware 1.2. Access to menu and image review is much quicker.

I zoomed into the beautiful pictures on Jono's review page and seeing details that won't be visible in A2,A3 size prints that I do! I may not need extra storage if I keep only 2 images a month as Jono does but I certainly need to upgrade my house for bigger wall size! 😀

I liked that feature as well and I have not found it in the menus. Very curious

Dammit!!!  Shades of the M10... I haven't even laid my mitts on the the thing yet and already I'm a M11-P candidate. Sigh... I hope we didn't loose the hardware for this and its just a future firmware upgrade.  I'd be extremely disappointed if this vaporized.

Ok I just tested that 3 times right now from flick of the on switch to capturing an image is about 1 second on my M11 same firmware 1.2

Got it down to to two seconds after reseting and using Fotos to set it up, but then it increased to 5 seconds again :(.

No panic: M11 has e-level, grid, everything except PC.

I don’t get that ?  Maybe something to do with you sd card or ? I am set up as DNG and JPEG   60 mpx. Writing on to SD card. 128gig Sandisk extreme pro

Thank you for the suggestion, that fixed it. I was using 128GB Sony Tough card. Switching to Delkin 128GB or Sandisk 32BG fixed it.

Correction: it did not help.

Interesting. Dumb question, but if you pull the card all together and just use the internal mem, is start up even faster?

On my cameras it varies, also with the Delkin. Sometimes it is 5 seconds, then it boots in 2.5 seconds. Hmpf.

Very interesting re: CF card so drastically changing start up times. I’m picking up my M11 tomorrow and, as I’m all Sony Toughs at the moment I should probably grab a Sandisk!

It may be issue with my camera and not with the SD card brand, size or type (UHS I vs UHS II). When I though it fixed it, suddenly it started getting worse again. Wait for more reports.

Hmm... are the cards UHS-II, a mix or... formatted in the M11... very odd.  Mine shipped this evening, should have it tomorrow. I'll look for this.
