Hi All,

Brand new M user - please be gentle, all this is new but exciting. Usually shoot Canon or in the past, the SL (which was fantastic).

Here are some images from the last 2 evenings in a (relatively) cool Singapore. Tonights were from Chinatown on Chinese New Year eve.

High ISO (max 6400), one or 2 cropped. All shot with Voigtlander 50 and 35 F/2 APO.

Last one. More M11+Voigtlander 50 or 35 f/2 APO. Happy New Year to those celebrating Lunar New Year.

Took my life into my own hands for this one.

35mm Summicron-ASPH v2

Not the most artistic, but wanted to show off the amazing DR on the M11 on an extremely bright snowy day. Was able to get back a lot of the snow details, all the sky color, and still pull amazing details out of all the backlit areas. Photo of me and the boy, taken by my father who said "oh man, I remember rangefinders, I wonder if I can find my old Minolta."

Edit: the preview in the message looks like it's slightly soft/blurry but that's clearly just the html rendering. When you click on it you can see it's tack-sharp.

Nice images and love the subject 💚

I do have a remark about the greens - to me they are quite subdued. Is that just the day in the woods or due to how you handle AWB?

It’s as close as a FF camera can get to MF, IMO. BTW, the temptation to shoot these Leica lenses always wide open, even when photographing two people, shows a bit. Your son looks slightly less sharp than you do.

Hi Alberti

I didn't use AWB (I used daylight WB as I always do outside). I think that the colours really are subdued in a January woodland.

All the best

Thanks - I got your non-use of AWB from your introduction to the camera.

Why I ask is because I am afraid the new dual-range sensor (if I am right??) might handle colours slightly different in the over-drive mode, that is, above say 1.600 Asa, and give less saturation or colour depth. More flattened so to say, less flattering.

This certainly isn't a problem I've seen - worth mentioning that all of these were at ISO 64

Dual-conversion gain kicks in at ISO 200. The colors that you get depend a lot on the profile used. With LrC, Leica recommends using Adobe Standard for higher ISOs.

Throwaway shot I was mucking about with this morning which I thought was worthwhile for demonstrating the latitude available in difficult scenes. One almost gets the impression you could salvage a shot even if you forgot to remove the lens cap. 😉
