Along the Albert Canal near Antwerp

A beautiful piece of street art as a memorial to "protest" the murder of Julie Van Espen, a 23 year old girl who was raped and killed close to this spot on May 14th 2019.

Every time I pass this place I feel sad because a beautiful young life was taken by a criminal who wasn't supposed to be free and about when he committed this hideous crime. Julie lived in the same town as I and was on her way to Antwerp to meet with some friends. Our daughters (3 and 5 years older then Julie) both live in Antwerp and passed by the same spot where this happened many times when going home after visiting us. For Julie a clear case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, the grief for her family and friends must be enormous. I guess our family has been more fortunate sofar, but all these thoughts keep racing through my mind every time I pass this memorial, and yesterday is the first time I dared to stop and thake a photo of it.

As it was Winter the painting was always in the shadow, because of the buildings that surrounded the wall. So I used TPE to check if there would be a possibility of having some light on the artwork. 
the app said 12:45

I was there at 11:00 and this was what I got. 
 

I visit this street many times to see how it changes and what’s new and what’s gone. 
 

the town is called torrevieja. 
 

It’s in the town center near C. Joaquin Chaparieta.
