pippy Posted December 25, 2021 Share #21 Posted December 25, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Think of the variations on the MP model name over film and digital versions. I won't call my M-D simply an 'M-D' in case folks might confuse it with an 'MD' hence I always, rather clumsily, specify M-D Typ-262. Philip.
Advertisement Posted December 25, 2021 Posted December 25, 2021 Hi pippy, Take a look here Why just M?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
a.noctilux Posted December 25, 2021 Share #22 Posted December 25, 2021 Right, so many MP (film) and M-P (type 240) confusions.
lct Posted December 25, 2021 Share #23 Posted December 25, 2021 Let alone CL and CL... Hard to learn simple things...
Keith (M) Posted December 25, 2021 Share #24 Posted December 25, 2021 Well, with the three 'M's" sitting on the shelf in my study there is absolutely no ambiguity - M7, M240 & M10M. Three 'M's" with very explicit individual capabilities and purposes. Mind you, if the M240 was to transmogrify into an M10-something or other I probably wouldn't complain... Try to explain it w/o given them different names .
tom.w.bn Posted December 26, 2021 Share #26 Posted December 26, 2021 I'm an engineer. I can fully understand the logic of the M with the 3 digit numbers as model distinction. Works well with expensive cars, don't know why it does not work with camers.
RayD28 Posted December 26, 2021 Share #27 Posted December 26, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for this info Philip. It clears things up a lot. The little suffixes can make a big difference.
evikne Posted December 26, 2021 Share #28 Posted December 26, 2021 Somehow I think that a model name loses some of its “charm” when the number gets too high. So I understand why Leica wanted to “hide” it and just call an M for an M. Timeless and elegant.
