WRT London, I lived there from 9 through the end of University. I do hope we'll see a nice August; I'm sure it will be hot!

Sorry. There is no way to get the iphone see the 28mm frame lines. The iphone camera just can't get close enough to the viewfinder.

Let's just agree to disagree.

Your images through the viewfinder are nothing like one would actually see!  You have taken them several inches behind the vf to hide the blockage!  Clue # 1 is we can see the VF surround - which you would not if you were actually using the camera.  And clue # 2 is where are the frame lines?

 

This is what it actually looks like through the VF of my M10r with 35 FLE and Nokton 50 1.1

I'll oblige.  Here are the 28mm frame lines on my 10r taken with my iphone.  This is using my Summicron 28 Asph v2, which is much smaller than the Summilux 28.

As you can see, the vf blockage is significant.

And here is the 10r with the lovely CV 28 3.5 including it's hood!  This package is just delightful to use.

Almost zero vf intrusion!  This is why I love small lenses.

I just don't see this as significant blockage or a big deal. I guess that why it's great to have choices! Small, slower lenses or fast larger lenses.

My default lens is the 35mm Summilux pre-FLE (I also own the tiny 35mm Summicron v4 but I enjoy the extra stop).

I have gone travelling and have mounted the TTArtisan 28mm f/5.6 onto my M10-R and I have been shooting it. I have started uploading my shots (although my edited and scaled down shots are still too large for the forum).

I quite like the vignette and so have no played with getting rid of the vignette in post. Nor have I found the need to play with sharpening. The lens flares like no tomorrow, and you can see with the shot of the soldier on sentry duty, where some of the centre of the photo loses contrast due to flaring (but with no obvious visual indication that flaring was occurring unless you know under what condition it was shot at).

My copy seems accurate, and certainly fun to use too. I have been using my Q2 alongside and so can see the difference between a clinically sharp lens, and this retro one. I wouldn't necessarily say I prefer one over the other - I like both, but the TT does give that vintage look about it which I cannot describe in words, which the Q2 doesn't do.

I'll upload more as I continue on my travels.

Good that you have both 28mm to choose from. The Summilux of the Q is just wow. And the TTA is just great. For the latter, for me, cause of the size, weight, and easiness to use, it's a win-win. Sharp enough w/ a lovely vignette. I use it exclusively at f8 and be there, you know. It just delivers what I ask for.

I want to find a tiny 50mm to add to the pocket-size family lenses: CV 21/4 + 28TTA + 35/2 LLL ... 
When I just want to keep everything small and light, the TTA is a perfect choice.

The CV 40 2.8 is tiny.  But not a 50...  The tiny 50 choice is the M 50 2.8 collapsible.

I already have the Summaron 28/5.6, I did play with the idea of buying the TTArtisan's 28/f5.6 last year because it's price was so stupidly inexpensive but I was put off a bit by the fact that it too was silver/chrome metal like the Summaron so it seemed pointless to have two lenses essentially looking the same as well as performing quite similarly too.......But then this week my dealer in the EU said that they'd just received the TT 28/5.6 in  Black, did I want it?............It's on it's way to me now, ( with a Heliar 40mm/2.8 too ), probably rolling  in just after the weekend. It's going to be interesting to see which of the two I will use the most.

Well they are so cheap I ended up buying 2 silver ones - one on my M9M and the other in the bag when I'm out with a colour body. Interested to see more reviews of the Heliar...

Thank you! But I don't think is that pancake as I want. Maybe this one, it's somewhere between my Summicron v5 and a pancake... Who knows!

Congrats! 28+40 are actually a great combo! Post some snaps (of the gear as well 🙂), that would be great. did you get the Heliar w/ 35 or 50 frame lines?

Hello Dennis, I got the Heliar Black Paint M-mount version, so that'll bring up the 50mm frame-lines, same as the 40mm 1.4 Nokton that I have had for a long time and is one of my favorite lenses. I'm also not concerned about not being able to use 6 bit coding with the M/Black version either.....I do however have a 40mm clip-on finder, but it's rarely mounted/used.

I prefer to use the 50mm frame because that way even if my subject is tight within those lines I know I have the image with space around it to play with, I feel there's more guesswork if you choose to go the 35mm frame-line route.......I have never considered the frame lines in an M to be anymore than a rough guideline to what will land up on your film/sensor anyway, it's never going to give you the SLR/DSLR/mirrorless VF image accuracy and I've never used it with that expectation.......Wiggle-room is good, hence the 50mm VF lines choice.

This viewpoint echoes my own thoughts as far as my 40 Nokton is concerned. The framelines in my MD seem to be slightly more accurate than those of the M Monochrom. Might that be down to them being created electronically rather than optically as per the traditional way used on M cameras from the days of the M3  up to the introduction of the M240?

As far as the TTA goes; I was out using it on the Monochrom the other day and am still amazed by its superb performance. I don't know if I just got a 'Good One' but, from what I'm seeing, it's every bit as sharp as my Elmarit ASPH.

Snap of the 'S.S. Robin'; the last surviving Tramp-Steamer on the planet. There were/are(?) plans to open it up as a visitor's attraction but COVID put everything on hold;

Same situation here with a silver, I always wanted a black Summaron. The black TT is a substitute.  And I will use both depending on the camera. In my fast testing, the difference is invisible to me. But the feel is different. The TT goes on my M10M.

Lovely, I'm waiting for my black TTA to show up. Originally I was interested in the silver but then saw a pic of the limited edition black Summaron.  Wow.  It made me hold out in the hope that TTA would make a black one - and they have!
