t0tor0 Posted September 3, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted September 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) hi all: Â thinking of getting a handgrip. M8 is slightly thicker than M7 or M6. thought it will be mroe comfortable if the handgrip is attached. Â Â if anyone here is using the original handgrip, would love to hear how you like the grip so far. Â thanks
Advertisement Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Hi t0tor0, Take a look here Handgrip for M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
vanhulsenbeek Posted September 3, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted September 3, 2007 Hi! Â It's on my M8 since day one. Never used it without it. Especially good with a bigger and heavier lens, like the WATE. Â It is great! Go, try it and when you like it: buy it. Not expensive - in Leica terms . Â I go back a long time with grips: used a Rapidwinder Rapidgrip on my M6 and M7. Tom A. is reported to work on an M8 grip with maybe a slot for an extra SD card.
ka00lai Posted September 3, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted September 3, 2007 To me it's a must, especially when framing vertically.
ArtZ Posted September 3, 2007 Share #4  Posted September 3, 2007 I don't have the grip but, personally, I like very much the leather "Camera Potector" Ref/14869. (99 €)  It makes very easy to hold the camera and protects it pretty well. .
cbretteville Posted September 3, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted September 3, 2007 Use the grip all the time, it took a bit of getting used to, but I have hardly used the camera without it. - C
Mark Pope Posted September 3, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted September 3, 2007 Had mine since day one. I use a grip on my M2 and a winder on my M6TTL, so it seemed natural to go with it. In all cases, I think it improves the handling. Â Regards
Morten Grathe Posted September 3, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted September 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Luigi halfcase with grip is also an option. Grips increase ergonomics, and I also find it easier to focus.
pascal_meheut Posted September 3, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted September 3, 2007 Had one since it was available. Allow me to hold the camera one shutter speed slower too.
farnz Posted September 3, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted September 3, 2007 t0tor0, Â I always use the handgrip because I feel that the M8 could easily wriggle out of my grasp without it. The vulcanite(?) covering doesn't provide a safe enough grip for me on its own. Â Pete.
Kent10D Posted September 3, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted September 3, 2007 Absolutely essential. So much so (for me) that I don't understand why it isn't original equipment! Well OK, I do understand why it isn't original equipment, but I think it should be.
Philippe D. Posted September 3, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted September 3, 2007 if anyone here is using the original handgrip, would love to hear how you like the grip so far.I couldn't imagine it without.Very comfortable although a little short in his high. Â I use the Motor M on my M6 to have a real grip on it, and the grip 14 405 on other M body. Just to enjoy the superior ergonomic.
gravastar Posted September 3, 2007 Share #12  Posted September 3, 2007 I added a wrap of sports grip which I found made it much more comfortable and secure to hold.  Here's a picture of the modified grip, post #5. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/32552-m8-vinyl-vulcanite.html   Bob. Hummmm... you should put also an audio system to the M8 that will make "Vrooooom, vrooooom...." every time you take a picture, just like a racing car!!!  I'm just pulling your leg Your grip looks nice -but I still prefer the camera protector
delander †Posted September 3, 2007 Share #16  Posted September 3, 2007 i guess no one bought it and didn't like it right?  I bought one shortly after I got the M8. But then noticed that I kept putting a finger over the rangefinder window. For the moment I am using the camera without. I must say now I don't seem to miss it - but will still keep the handgrip.  Jeff
fordfanjpn Posted September 3, 2007 Share #17 Â Posted September 3, 2007 It's a must on my camera. It's a big help for me to keep the camera steadier. Combined with the 1.15x magnifier, it improved my focusing quite a bit. It also gives me a firmer grip on the camera when taking it out of the bag. simon_hughes Posted September 3, 2007 Share #19  Posted September 3, 2007 I actually posted this in another thread but this one is more to the point. I have the grips for my M8s and although I love them, they have the same slippery feel that the body does. I tried, without sucess, to find the "sport grip" Bob mentioned in his post but finally did find another cheap yet effective solution:  Go your local skateboard shop and ask for "grip tape" (if you're an old fart like me, ignore the bemused looks from the staff). It comes typically in 8" width rolls but, of course you only need a few inches, and indeed they handed it to me at no charge!  It is like sandpaper with adhesive on the back, and matches the black surface of the M8 almost perfectly! Cut a piece to fit, (I cut mine to wrap around but not overlap the rear spine), heat it up a bit with a hair dryer to make it more flexible and then peel off the backing and wrap around the grip. Voila, it gives you a very non-slippery surface.  When you first put it on, you'll find that some of the granular material will come off, but a few rubs will dislodge the loose stuff and you'll be left with a very good grip surface... it makes the world of difference!  The tape can be removed with the help of a hair dryer so it is not permanent.  I'm toying with adding a small patch on the upper rear position of the body (just to the right of the "Made in Germany") to give a thumb grip too.  Please ignore the horrible image quality below, it's just a quick and dirty example to show the finished product. And for inquiring minds, no, the VF shown is not used with this lens but with my CV 21mm that usually resides on this body.  Cheers,  Simon Welcome, dear visitor!
