Advertisement Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 Hi Anakronox, Take a look here SL2 Monochrom on the horizon.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Stuart Richardson Posted August 18, 2022 Share #82 Posted August 18, 2022 I think he has a point. It seems like the SL has been a bit slow to sell recently, based on the promotions and what I bave heard. But that is also how Leica tends to shift excess stock of old tech…either by converting it to monochrome, by making it into an SE version or a special edition. So perhaps we might get one or a reporter etc. But I agree that it seems a bit off, if understandable to complain about it being heavy. The SL is positioned as being a professional workhorse, not a light and compact travel/street camera. It is like complaining that your SUV doesn’t corner as well as your sports car did. 2

However I also want to use the old r lenses. I would also appreciate a sl monochrome body. Which ones are you using? Is the anything at the horizon? jaapv Posted January 19 Share #84 Posted January 19 Why specifically an SL for R lenses? All Monochrom bodies except the M9 have the possibility to use an EVF and vintage manual lenses. Take your pick. I would be quite surprised if Leica would bring out a Monochrom SL but anything is possible I suppose.
rwkeil Posted January 19 Share #85 Posted January 19 (edited) M bodies I don’t like because of the viewfinder. What’s left in monochrome? Edited January 19 by rwkeil

Hi, sadly there isn’t much in the Leica ecosystem except for the M Monochroms and the Q2 Monochrom. Since I posted that last comment, I’ve practically abandoned the SL system and will soon sell the Q2M as I really only use the M10M now. I still love that little camera! Pentax still makes a K3 Monochrome that could be interesting. You could always shop around and ask if Kolari could convert an SL2 or any other mirrorless full frame to adapt your R lenses onto. That may be your best bet since you don’t get on with rangefinders. Good luck!
rwkeil Posted February 21 Share #87 Posted February 21 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have meanwhile heard that the difference between „normal“ Photos and monochrome ones is Not the biggest. So maybe taking pictures in blackandwhite high contrast and the according red or orange filter and treatment in Lightroom will get the same result. jaapv Posted February 21 Share #88 Posted February 21 Well the high resolution sensors even out the playing field a bit but I have yet to see a converted B&W image that can equal a well-processed M9M one in the same way that film simulated digital images can never quite reach the same result as the fully chemical process.
jaapv Posted February 22 Share #89 Posted February 22 By the way, this prediction dates from 3 ½ years ago. I think that we may call the horizon infinity.
TeleElmar135mm Posted February 22 Share #90 Posted February 22 Not inf. but say 50 meters ... I think the big breakthrough regarding a Monochrom SL will be the Foveon sensor from Sigma. Yes, he has 3 layers like color-films but he has the high resolution, sensitivity and color purity. Analog films have their specific sensibilisation and this can better implemented than before in the sensor level workflow for b/w-conversation. You have to keep in mind that the monochrome cameras also process something that is far away from black and white film. Nevertheless, this is a step in the right direction if you only want to photograph in b/w but I hope the Foveon is the next step. Beside: All the years with digital kameras: My dream is still a Mono TRI-X
jaapv Posted February 22 Share #91 Posted February 22 What is the use of a dedicated colour sensor for a monochrome camera? Especially one that is not suitable for M lenses, a major selling point of the SL series? You throw away all the advantages of a sensor without colour filters and replace it by something that needlessly has triple the well depth.
