jaapv Posted July 4, 2022 Share #501 Posted July 4, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Says Andreas. You may think so, I do not. There have been dozens of cameras using LTM, Zeiss, Voigtlander and Epson have used the M mount; they all have one thing in common: they are not Leicas.

I think that any new rangefinder camera with the M mount should be considered to be part of the Leica ecosystem. It would seem to me that any Pixii owner is also potentially a Leica lens buyer, and no one with any sense buys a $3000-$5000 lens does so without comparing it to the available alternatives. Leica and thus the LUF should be happy to see potential new lens purchasers from the Pixii buyer community, convinced of the value of Leica lenses by comparing their performance objectively alongside the other vendors' products. But I guess some choose not to see it that way. G
raizans Posted July 5, 2022 Share #503 Posted July 5, 2022 Are Panasonic L-mount cameras and lenses a conscious exception? It seems arbitrary to make allowances in the rules for non-Leica brand L-mount gear, but not for non-Leica brand M-mount gear.

pgk Posted July 5, 2022 Share #509 Posted July 5, 2022 "Photographs taken with non-Leica gear are not allowed on this forum, except to illustrate a Leica-related point and (for obscure reasons) in the film image thread" Ummm. 'Obscure' reasons? I would say that any new M or LTM camera has a far from 'obscure' reason for posting on the LUF. I would include non-Leica lens use. After all someone buying a Pixii with a cheap lens may well be a person who might 'upgrade' eventually to Leica lenses, and even bodies. I see this a a logical potentiality rather than being obscure and as such see such postings as 'Leica related'. That said the forum belongs to, and is controlled by, Adreas and so, quite appropriately, he does have the final say.

I'll leave it for once to honour the creative pretext. Future non-technical images with Leica lenses will be moved into a dedicated thread in the Photo-forums, or you can create one yourself (preferably in "Other" )

There are many Leica cameras that can be bought for a fraction of the price of this pixiie thingy - the argument ( bolded above) is based on a false premise. Based on the type of arguments presented in this thread and echoed in your own post I quoted above - LUF should have sub forums for every camera make that can use an adaptor to mount any m mount lens - these places exist elsewhere for those so inclined to discuss the virtues of other camera makes in conjunction with M mount lenses. Upgrading is part of photographic culture ...... There are very few current M or ltm mount cameras - so not many sub-forums. There is much discusson of Leica lenses on other mount bodies already. lct Posted July 5, 2022 Share #515 Posted July 5, 2022 Rules are rules. Been using them since the beginning of this forum and i don't recall of a single experience when those rules were impossible to comply with. In this case though, a comparison of wide (~20/1mm) lenses to illustrate which worked best on the Pixii, would IMO be both useful and valid in that it would be technically relevant and would be a 'Leica related point' inasmuch as it would be helpful for those contemplating the camera with a range of lenses (Leica and others). I seem te recall having done such comparos on my Epson R-D1 here, even on my adapted Sony A7's. I see no problem in that provided comparisons are made with or against Leica lenses but it is not what our colleague @loloboubou1 wanted to do above. He wanted to show how a Pixii camera performs with an MS Optics lens. As if i wanted to show how my R-D1 works with a Zeiss lens. It can be the purpose of RFF, for instance, not that of the LUF.
