I'm really getting into modern Voigtlander lens, I already have 15mm f4.5 III, 28mm f2 II, 40mm f1.4 and just add Minolta M-Rokkor 90mm f4

I use them on a Sony A7C, I'm still thinking about Leica M digital camera but price are very high

I just discovered that there are some Canon LTM vintage lens but from what I saw online it seems too soft for my test on digital

I was wondering if there are other sharp and special lens on a budget for M mount ( or L39 )

I'm picking mi lens with M mount since I can use on Sony with a really small adapter and I could use them on Leica M if I decide to pull the trigger

Perhaps Canon 50mm f1.8(LTM/M39) or M-Rokkor 40mm f/2(Leica M mount) fit your taste and it's relatively cost-effective.

If you like a classic look to your photos, some of the Canon, Nikon, and Tanar lenses (all LTM) have done a fine job for me, both on film and on my Sony A7, as well as my M4/3 Oly. Also, a really fine 50 is the Leica Elmar 50/3.5 red scale. Paying up the Voigtlanders give a more modern look and do a great job on both film and digital.

it depends what you mean for "classic look" I like sharp image with harsh bokeh of the VM 40mm f1.4

over the softer Sony Zeiss 55mm f1.8 that looks to me "kind of boring"

One LTM lens is a must (even not adopting it later)

... created in the 1920's and having some changing in it's long span period of making from 1926 to 1962 ...

happily (for me as I use some units coated or not), those stay great lenses even with modern digital last sensors.

more than 365,000 units in the wild !

I don't know if the price is right, but the units I bought were very cheap (almost 'free' when buy with the boby).

We can even have in M mount

or screw mount

If you like interesting Bokeh, look for a nice Summar 5cm f2 (the emphasis is nice - optically).

It would help if we knew which focal length you are interested in? But as an example of something you don't already have what about the CV 21mm f/4 Color Skopar? It has been lens testing guru Sean Reid's go-to 21mm lens for many years, perhaps not the best 21mm lens in the world, but perhaps the best overall package for a walk-around lens day to day.

Doubtful on a stock Sony. Works fine for closeups on my Kolari mod A7r2 but otherwise corners are soft below f/8. I'd rather choose the current CV 21/3.5 but i never tried it on a stock Sony either.

+1 for the Summar suggestion.

Could you explain why?

Because wide angle needs to be redesign for digital camera especially if used on a camera that has a thicker sensor than Leica, but as far as I know older VM 15mm do give purple vignetting on Leica M too

VM 21mm f3.5 is newer and similar to Sony E 21mm f3.5

I didn't know some Russian are also L39 mount

From the mid-'30s to the mid '50s there were many dozens of different lenses made (and made in their millions) in L39 mount for the various FED & Zorki (etc.) cameras of the day but bear in mind that these camera bodies did not share the same flange-mount to film-plane distance with Leica therefore these lenses may very well not perform well on a Leica Digital camera unless one uses Live-view / EVF. Shorter than 'Standard' lenses fare better than do longer ones but, again, do bear this in mind. I have a great many FSU(*) lenses but there is not one 50mm (or longer) which works accurately with an optical rangefinder. OTOH my L39 35mm f2.8 Jupiter 12 works perfectly.

If you really wish to go down the FSU route with an optical r/f then these lenses can be shimmed to work with Leica bodies.

As far as Canon LTM lenses are concerned I've no idea why the tests you have viewed held them in a poor light as IMX they are superb performers and as good in their own way as Leica lenses of a similar vintage. The 50mm f1.8 series (as has already been mentioned) are particularly fine lenses.

As far as M-mount goes then Voigtlander - as you are already aware - make superb optics.

Would the Summitar (which is a single coated redevelopment of the Summar) also qualify - I agree the background of the Summar has a sort of velvet look. I also saw it on some Summitar pictures. By the way, the Summar is very good on the new high res sensors.

Perfectly true when you wrote this but the BSI sensor of the M11 is a game changer as far as M cameras are concerned. Purple vignetting with difficult lenses like S-A 21/3.4, VM 21/4 or VM 15/4.5 v2 is a thing of the past since the M11. The VM 21/3.5 remains a bit sharper than the VM 21/4 at f/4 but it is less compact and has also more color fringing.
