TheBestSLIsALeicaflex Posted July 28, 2021 Share #21 Posted July 28, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) 35 + 90 is the traditional minimalistic outfit, but drop the 90 and use your feet. That's what I did. I'll only use a 35 on a 0.72 M mount rangefinder. Ha, ha, I have multiple 35's but the the single focal length forces me to think and master the lens. The thing is with a 35 you can capture most of the shots you can get with a whole arsenal of lenses. It simplifies matters too, which is often an appeal for a rangefinder system. But that's just me, and it took 25 years to get to this point. Edited July 28, 2021 by TheBestSLIsALeicaflex
Advertisement Posted July 28, 2021 Posted July 28, 2021 Hi TheBestSLIsALeicaflex, Take a look here 35/90 vs 28/50/90 with an M10-P. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

Shooting with the FLE makes me remember how much I loved the 50 1.4 ASPH I used to have. I don't really think I'm in need of both a 35 and a 50 So Part of me is curious about flipping the FLE to pick up a 28mm Elmarit and rekindle the love with a 50 Summilux (would keep the 90mm) Or Should I calm down and just carry on with the FLE? I do like it, but am feeling frisky here. Do you wear eyeglasses? If so, forget the 28.. more trouble than it's worth. If you really want a 28, get a Q 🙂

Tell us, what is your vision of the world, why do we need your photography, what is your mission/goal/message to us and to the world? If you want to leave a legacy through your photographs, what would that be? Do you see the world more as a distance observer or do you strive to be at the center of action? Do you take part in the action or do you believe you should not interfere with events as they unfold? In any case, the type of lens you chose is probably one is the easier decision when you develop your own style. Chose the tool that supports your vision, try different options, you’ll know when you have arrived. To me it sounds like none of the options you are pondering is the right one. I am pretty good at using my imagination though to estimate what'll be in frame. I don’t wear glasses and managed to acquire a 0.58 MP (many years ago) precisely in anticipation of getting at 28 mm Leica lens in the future. I finally did a few years ago (28 Elmarit ASPH), and I’m very glad to have the 0.58 viewfinder. It makes a 28 look like a 35 in a 0.72 viewfinder . This does not mean you would find the 28 mm framelines in your M10 unusable, but you would very likely struggle to see all four sides of the framelines at once. If this would really bother you, stick with the 35, or use an EVF with the 28 (a focal length I love). Good luck, and enjoy whatever lens(es) you end up owning

The simple idea that the world may need my pics makes me laugh but it is perhaps why i'm not a photographer .
CosmoM3 Posted July 29, 2021 Share #28 Posted July 29, 2021 I hate changing lenses so... 99% of the time, it'll be my Lux 35 FLE 1% when I need reach or portraits, Lux 50 ASPH

I mostly agree but would not say it in such an absolute way as it depends on the kind of glasses you wear : Large plastic mount eyeglasses will definitely be a problem even with the 35mm frame in some instances. Frameless or wireframe small eyeglasses with an elastic frame are not a problem even at 28mm. At least in my experience with progressives.
a.noctilux Posted July 30, 2021 Share #31 Posted July 30, 2021 This is my first opinion in this thread. There is no ideal kit of M lenses. In my experience, each kit (can be also one lens on M my prefered kit 😉) has their ideal situation. So having choices of say from 12mm to 560mm as me never means carrying (using) them all time. It's nice to have choices like macro lenses, MATE, PC lenses, zoom from SLR system, etc. In that way I do appreciate a lot mounting Visoflex 020 in place of optical old timer Visoflex. To give my opinion for this thread, I'd complement my Summilux-M 35mm with 75mm (in my case it can be Summilux, Apo-Summicron or Summarit-M depending on... present situations)

It depends on distance between eye and eyeglasses and on the diopters. Convex lenses (positive diopters) magnify. You may not be able to the frame for 28mm. Concave lenses (negative diopters) demagnify. You may be able to see the frame for 28mm.

andba Posted July 30, 2021 Author Share #34 Posted July 30, 2021 These are the glasses I wear (not the sunglass version), so they're pretty chunky. My prescription is also somewhat intense, so generally I struggle with even 35mm framelines. Welcome, dear visitor! If you want to use Summilux 75mm, this would be difficult to nail focus at near distance not impossible though. Maybe with magnifier x1.25 or 1.4 ? In your place, I'd buy Apo-Summicron-M 75mm or why not the Summilux 75mm, then see in use if the lens suits. Each case, only you can judge, after using a while. Take the advices here as guide only. Up to you to follow or not.
epand56 Posted September 11, 2021 Share #37 Posted September 11, 2021 I've sold my FLE years ago and switched back to the Asph. that I like quite more. And again sold the 90 Elmarit and bought the Apo-Summicron Asph. and that's a new world.
