In my experience, yes, when in a backpack. I've used one for years and never had a problem.

Thanks for the swift reply. I was thinking that is should be enough. I got a Q2 Monochrom on a loan from the Leica store for a couple of days and it was supplied to me in the leather version of this pouch. Still I do think it is a bit light on padding, but perhaps I'm a bit spoiled with the Billingham, which is extremely well padded. I was thinking I could always put some extra padding on the bottom for extra protection it isn't enough.

That would make the camera a very tight fit, I suspect. My Q3 is in a Leica half-case and fits well with a rope strap (and the lens hood and cap on the camera, of course)—but I wouldn't want to try to fit anything else in the pouch (aside from an AirTag I always drop in).

Camera bags scale according to the camera, but intent scales according to the day. If I had to use a close fitting camera bag that could take nothing else than the camera I think I'd get 100 yards from the car and have to turn back. What is the point if you can't take a bottle of water, or a guide book, or somewhere to stuff tickets, or even a snack bar to keep you going, other than knowing you aren't out to make photographs but to socialise. In which case why take a Leica Q, use the phone?

My challenge is finding an ideal bag. I don't like camera bags generally, and messengers don't protect the camera. So I usually prefer to find a good bag that holds all my everyday gear, and then find a solution to have my camera in that bag. For me that typically looks like some sort of a camera cube, however I'm trying to get even smaller. So I'm looking for a cube or pouch that is the exact size of the camera. This allows me to open my messenger bag and simply pull the Leica out of the pouch or cube.

This is how I prefer to shoot. I can take the camera out using just a hand strap or something and then put it back in and shut my bag and not be encumbered with something hanging around my neck on top of my bag. It just makes it a lot easier to put the camera away and I have to worry about anything at all. But the ease of access makes shooting more common for me. If I have to work to get it out of a case or bag it makes me less likely to want to shoot it in that way.

So ideally a pouch is nice because it's removable if you ever want to take the camera out and keep it in the pouch. But a cube of some sort is still great, as I only really need to protect all around the camera except the top. The bag will protect the top. So I guess I would call my desired solution a drop in cube or pouch. I just haven't found one that has enough structure or guaranteed specific size that I know it will be easy to put the camera in and pull it out easily...

In my film days I used to wrap the camera in a weil washed chamois leather.

(Ask the maid what this is 😀)

Protects against bruising and great for cleaning.

It’s still in my bag, one of the oldest pieces of gear I have…

Lowepro Adventura SH100 II. It's such a tight fit that I have to remove the lens hood to fit the camera in the case. It has good padding all around the camera - I carted my Q2 Monochrom for a couple of months around Europe on a bicycle in one of those cases, and both it and the camera came through the experience fine. The case has external elasticised pockets each side - I carry a spare battery in one and a spare SD card in the other.

If you have a lot of unwanted cash, this is excellent.  https://oberwerth.com/en-us/products/sling-bag-small?variant=56292085662077

I blew the budget and got one, and it fits my Q3 43 perfectly.  I like the way the slings have the camera right where I want it when I need to grab it fast.  I wish I had discovered slings several decades ago!

For a traditional camera bag, the Oberwerth Q bag is very fine, but it really doesn't offer anything different from several of the others noted...although the quality is certainly excellent.

I had two ONA bags, and sold them both.  Just didn't like them.

Although I’ve a few Billingham bags for a single Q2/M11 I’ve started to put my Q2 into a SL lens bag, dropping it into what ever other bag I’m using (laptop/hiking etc.). Might not be the cheapest solution (usually have to buy a SL lens), but it works really well.

How do you carry it. I can’t find a picture at the Oberwerth website of a person carrying as a sling across the back. It looks more like a waist bag.

If you go to around 4:13, it shows the guy wearing it.  I wear it in front of me, and the top opens away from me, so I can see what's in the bag and lift it out quickly.   I wear it much lower than this fellow, however.

I’m curious about the padding quality in the Artisan & Artist pouches. Do they offer enough protection?

Depends on what you want to do with it.

I’ve been using the ACAM75 for the Q3 since I got it soon after it came out. It’s mainly to keep the camera from getting scuffed up in a backpack while hiking and skiing. So far, my Q3 still looks like new. I normally pack something soft on the bottom of the backpack like a spare jacket and then other stuff. The camera is on top inside the backpack.
