So, i have recently built a little Leica kit for myself including a Leica M4 and a leica M240 with some lenses.

the lenses i have ( all 4 except the summicron were acquired as part of a deal with the M4) are :

Minolta 28mm f2,8 Rokkor, the Voigtländer 35mm f1,7 Ultron, the Nikon 50 f2,0 LTM, the Summicron 50mm f2,0 V4 and last the Voigtländer 75mm f2,5 Heliar color lens.

I was thinking how to proceed if anything with adding to this kit in the future. I am quite new to shooting with these and not really sure except the 35 voigtländer or the summicron 50 what are the weakest lenses when it comes to character or performance .

If you have any good suggestions for a good lens( maybe not the most expensive leica lenses ) to add or replace the others i have i would be happy for :)

need at least one f/1.4 or faster lens for dark or night shooting.

That would be great yes :) im guessing there are no "Cheaper" alternatives when it comes to F 1,4s 😄 if you want great glass that is.

The Norton 50mm f1.5 V II and the 35mm f1.4 V II are good ones at f1.4 and cheap-ish.

But to be honest, you don’t need anything faster than F2 with today’s sensors so I’d stick with Summicrons instead. My favorite being the Summicron 35mm v1 (too expensive now, so the V4 is a better bet) and the Rigid Summicron 50mm. If you want more vintage, the collapsible summicron 50mm is also pretty good. At f3.5 it’s a bit dark but one of my favorite lens is the Elmar 50mm LTM f3.5, great even wide open despite being a 100y old design.

Other great lenses that are not Leica is the 35mm Hexanon f2 and the Rollei 40mm f2.8. Both tiny and great rendering : ) Good luck finding a lens you like!

Thank you for the suggestions :)  Yeh on the film body maybe a 1,4 is handy when in very low light, but 2,0 seems capable enough for most situations on a digital body.

Would be nice to have 2 Leica lenses at least, so a 35 is a bit tempting. But will definitely check that rollei and Hexanon lens up, not sure i have seen any pictures from them.

@solamnus  - looks like a fine set.

Perhaps looking at your results you say "I wish was a stop faster" or " the background looks too distracting" etc.

If do end up thinking that way, the Voigtlander 35/40/50mm f/1.2 lenses are astonishingly good.

Thank you :) yeh maybe at some point i will say that, if i know myself im sure at some point hehe.

Voigtländer makes some great lenses, will look at some reviews on those now for sure. Great suggestions thank you:)

Minolta 28mm f2,8 Rokkor

Great little lens in spite of its white spots, if any, but brings up 35mm frame lines on Leica rangefinders. If it is a problem for you you may be interested by an Elmarit 28/2.8 asph which is even smaller.

My advice is simple and very inexpensive. Use what you have, for several months, and see if and where your existing lenses leave you wanting.

Good advice and something i will most likely do anyhow, was just thinking ahead. Already spent a bunch on getting the kit i do have. I just know myself and at some point probably would like to explore more options to really be able to narrow down in the end i want to save as my core set of lenses :)

Hit me! :D

I recently picked up a clean VM 35/1.4 Classic II SC for $420, including the hood and a B+W UV filter, and including PP fees and shipping.  That's one hell of a deal.

This is a great, small, light, fast & classic rendering lens.  I would go for MC for better control.
