It makes sense! 🤣

The other side of the coin. With great power comes great responsibility. When stopping down, easier to nail focus, but more difficult to arrange elements in context, w/ a proper composition.

My inspiration, Alex Webb

Composition wins over anything.

Bokeh is merely a crutch, composition is the key.  This is the rule number One.

I saw the trailer of the new Hollywood Zack Snyder movie. I read that for many shots, the most used lens was an old Canon 50/0.95. Nowadays, it's all about the epic, to shock, and 0.95 😆 Influencer mood ...Watch the trailer and you will understand.

By admitting point 4, you are also saying that you can understand why lenses (gear) can inspire people, I suppose.

Understanding how a tool works or responds to varying circumstances is different than being inspired by it. Gear tests are among the most boring, albeit educational, aspects of photography for me.  I’m happy when I’m well beyond that stage... back to the pictures and letting the gear get out of the way.

You all realized that bokeh is not always good. Perhaps someday you will understand that the tele lens is only good for " football"

Thank you. I’ll throw all my wildlife and birding shots into the bin together with 20% of my landscapes.

Ah!

Thanks, Jeff, for letting me know; Alex Webb is new to me so I'll be sure to check out his (or, as it might be, her) work!

And Dennis; when you said 'My inspiration' I didn't appreciate that it wasn't one of your own.......but that's only because I consider the image to be one you might well have taken yourself (given the opportunity).

So thanks to the pair of you for raising my awareness and broadening my knowledge-base!

Philip.

haha... It was funny! Thank you so much for the hope and good vibes 🤣 You made my day! 🙏

If you want to get one of the most inspiring book out there, I HIGHLY recommend The Suffering of Light (of course by Alex Webb). My photography has changed because of that book.

with a 135mm lens chances are also not much

I don't think so. After a shot with a 135mm, maybe you have enough time to switch to the 21 SEM and take the last majestic shot at f/8...

Watching the works of great masters is like a tourist in a museum. Can not understand anything.

There is a difference between "anything" and "something". I'm 100% positive to say that thanks to Alex Webb book, I learned "something"
