FLE at f2 APO at f2 Finally a couple of 100% screenshots of the comparison both at f2 Thank you very much for this comparison Jono! This one does seem to be very odd in the bunch.....way off in sharpness compared to the rest. If possible, please do one more test with mid-to-far distance. Appreciate it! Ktsa5239 Posted June 29, 2021 Share #44  Posted June 29, 2021 Thanks for the comparison photos. I currently have the asph and is on the waiting list for the APO but I’m starting to wonder if it’s worth the upgrade… I loved the look of the 50APO which is way I’ve put down a deposit as soon as the 35APO was announced. And I also like the idea of close focusing. However as more comparison photos come I start to feel that it’s not a night and day difference between the two.

And I also like the idea of close focusing. However as more comparison photos come I start to feel that it’s not a night and day difference between the two. The ASPH was perhaps my most used lens in the last decade… I love how it’s sharp but also capable of a dreamy rendering in soft light. I bought the APO and think the close focussing is a bigger game changer for me than the outright IQ.  Both wonderful lenses… in most situations the ASPH will hold its own and it has the extra stop. I’m a little surprised how much sharper the APO is at f/2 in Jono’s comparisons (which are greatly appreciated)… and the close focus is of course brilliant for the versatility it adds. I wouldn’t be feeling too much FOMO if you have the ASPH, and I’m still keeping my copy until I determine after a year of using the APO whether I actually prefer the rendering, especially for family photos where the APO’s acuity could be less flattering? Time will tell.
