The ring of similar lenses (SEM 21/3.4, FLE 35/1.4, CRON 21/2.8 v2) provides little protection to the front element. Only effective choice is filter vs hood for this purpose but a filter sans hood is not the better way to avoid flare and ghosting obviously.
