Here’s another one in the mountains. I’ve shot it in hot and cold weather and in all sorts of weather conditions and it’s never let me down.

Palermo. Taken a few years ago on the M9. Probably @ f/5.6.

Dear all,

I got the answer from the Dealer who asked Leica about the ring : they apparently told him there is no ring ? I was quite surprised…

Nothing more than this in the package :

Do you all confirm ?

This annoys me.  The front of the lens is most likely to get rubbed, scratched or otherwise impacted during normal use.  So, Leica gives you the choice, either damage the $250 hood, or the doubled threaded ring on the lens (which is very delicate).  Leica:  Please bring back the plastic snap-on hoods!

The ring of similar lenses (SEM 21/3.4, FLE 35/1.4, CRON 21/2.8 v2) provides little protection to the front element. Only effective choice is filter vs hood for this purpose but a filter sans hood is not the better way to avoid flare and ghosting obviously. Now i don't like much the current hoods either but i prefer bayonet hoods personally. YMMV.
