Danner Posted April 22, 2021 Share #1  Posted April 22, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) My first M6 arrived without the protective film on the botton plate, which might not have been provided in 1985.  My recently acquired M6 (newer) still has the protective film in place.  I'm thinking about peeling it off. What say you?

Fedro Posted April 22, 2021 Share #4 Â Posted April 22, 2021 (edited) leave it on if you care about this type of things. I left mine on the MP I bought in 2006 until it started peeling off some 12 years later. The bottom plate is still near pristine as a result Edited April 22, 2021 by Fedro

Just as taking off or leaving on the transparent 'protective' covering is only ever known to somebody who did it, left it on or took it off, otherwise nobody else gives a damn. Well, that's a whole other can of worms! The older M6 said "Leitz" on the red dot, and the new M6 says "Leica" on the red dot, so, the universe is out of balance 😮

On the digital models the sticker is very important as it includes important information on how to dispose of them when no longer of use.

That explains why Leica replaced it when it visited them. Can't say that I've checked to see if its still there though. Must remember to look underneath when I have to dispose of it. 1

I don’t like to feel the plastic layer when I hold the camera. An eraser works well to remove the stubborn sticker.
